Highly recommend renting a car. It is a very safe island and it really takes a vehicle to be able to explore. If you plan on trying to see it all (which I recommend because there are many cool places and things to see), car rental is much more reasonable than taxis and tours.

We were given a horrible car with 126k km / 75k miles. The battery died after one day and we almost got stranded. We had to go to the airport and exchange for a new car, wasting an hour of our time.

Fraud Alert! Renters, Beware! This place is a SCAM. Do not fall for renting here just because they offered you the best rate online. Upon check-in, they will be fine and rent you the car. However, when dropping off the car, they will deliberately find the smallest nick and charge you $250+ to repair it. They claim that they have to replace the entire body part; however we know this is not true because they rented us an old car with dents, scratches and nails in tire. They also wanted to charge us for a nail in the tire claiming that it wasn’t there when we got the car - however who is checking the tires in that detail when you rent the car? If you have driven on the island, the whole island has pot holes and you are bound to get something in the tire. They make stuff up to scam you and tell you to get your money back through your insurance. You can tell they do this to every other customer knowing people have flights to catch and are bound to them giving them a ride to the airport. I would spend the extra $50 or $100 and rent with another company. The owner and staff here are cheap and looking to make a quick buck. Disgusting. Also they rented us a car with a dead battery and we were stuck on the road for two hours during our vacation. If you want an old crappy car and even worse customer service, this is the perfect place for you. For everyone else, rent from another company. Europcar Curacao sucks.

I was extremely upset We had a confirmed reservation for 10 am pickup I called at 8 am and was told a car would be available And the car we would be picked up at 10 am to get the car At 10am we were advised there was no car available until later in the day around 4 pm We were visiting Curacao on a cruise and had a day and a half in port After chasing alternative car rentals I found one but they charged a three day minimum So hertz totally screwed up our day and cost us us a crazy amount of money for a 1 day rental

I made a reservation with Payless and was confirmed. I flew all the way to Curacao and we were excited to go sightseeing...until we went to get the car and they said they were all out. We spent thousands of dollars on a vacation and we were stuck in the hotel and walking around the area near it. How could this happen? Payless screwed us over, not good. I have called customer service but no one will respond or talk about why/how this happened.
