Great price, car was extremely clean, and although larger than what we requested it got very good gas mileage.

Cons:

The surcharge for taking the car to France (while very minimal 5 Euro/day) seemed arbitrary.

Staff was friendly.

Cons:

Car was not ready. We had to wait 5 hours for the car. Most of the communication with the branch had to be initiated by us. We were left with a feeling that we were mislead by the staff and definitely given low priority. Upon returning car, they had no one available to return us to train station. They finally offered to call a cab for us. My wife demanded a credit on the bill for the cab ride which was rellunctantly tendered. As usual with Interprise, their fuel tank policy is a nuisance.

Station in Freiburg did not have the car I requested and charged me extra to take one of a different class. At the return station in Berlin I was given no confirmation of receipt of the vehicle for three days and was illegitimately charged for an extra day of rental.

My experience with Europcar was terrible from beginning to end. I had specifically reserved a standard SUV because I had a lot of luggage and a large crate. I paid extra to reserve this specific vehicle which was not cheap.. $232 for one day. When I arrived they presented me with a car. When I told them this isn’t what I had reserved and I had reserved the SUV specifically they didn’t care and smugly said the car had more space. Well, I didn’t want the SUV for just the space. They offered no solution, didnt care what I had reserved, and didn’t seem to care about the problem they were causing me. I only drove the car from their lot to my apt (less than a mile) and on the highway from Freiburg to Frankfurt. When I dropped off the car one of the workers immediately (like he already knew it was there) went to a spot on the wheel where he said there was damage. There was no damage there. I had not driven near any curbs so it wasn’t even possible. He acted like they were going to file a claim on the insurance. This was a huge scam and felt very shady. It felt like a set up. I knew I had not damaged the vehicle. AVOID THIS COMPANY LIKE THE PLAGUE. They don’t care about what you reserved then they will fabricate a story that you damaged the vehicle.

The pick-up time was able to be set for 1pm despite the car rental agency being closed from 12-2pm and we could only collect our car after 2pm. We had selected a pick-up time of 1pm because the car rental agency was supposed to be opened from 8am-2pm only. Other than that, the process was smooth.

I prepaid for an automatic car and there was no automatic car for me at pickup. They gave it away to someone else. So now I have paid for a car I never drove. I need my money back. I had to rent from Europcar.
