Paid for an SUV, ended up with a Malibu. Back wheels out of alignment, very uncomfortable ride. Reverse camera faulty. Seats both had dirt on them…really gross. Clearly had not been cleaned. Chip on windshield - right in frojt of where driver is looking. Mentioned this on the way out. Currently got 3 different charges pending on my credit card from Avis - why? Still don’t have a final bill/email confirmation from them. Zero contact since drop-off 24 hours ago.

Poor experience. I was quoted a price and ended up paying more than said price, even though I didn’t add extra packages, extend the duration of rent, get fined, or incur any damages to the vehicle. The associate at pickup location didn’t even inquire about third party insurance and went ahead to include their insurance with no proper explanation, which I “canceled” at that point, but it seems that it wasn’t after all.

Our flight arrived at midnight. I noted this when looking for a car. We were dropped off by the airport transport to the car rental facility in Kansas City. There was NOBODY there in the whole facility. Nobody at Dollar. Nobody at any counter. We sat in what resembled an empty shopping mall for 2 hours with my 83 year old mom in a wheelchair and 4 kids at midnight just trying to find a way out of there. No Uber had space for 7 of us. Customer service at Dollar wouldn't answer the phone. Customer service at Hertz quoted us $357 for 1 day to rent one of their vehicles just to get out of there, just to come back the next morning and get our actual rental, pre-paid for at Dollar. Nowhere in our pre-travel emails did it say that when we arrive there wouldn't be anyone to give us our van. Why would you rent a van to someone who stated they were coming in at midnight when you knew you wouldn't be there to provide? Two security guards and an exit gate attendant at Alamo working graveyard helped us as much as they could to get us out of there. We finally were able to snag a van with Alamo for $140 for the night just to get to a place to stay for the night. We had to drive an hour back the next day, on Easter mind you, to get our Dollar rental. Drop off was fine and the vehicle was fine and the manager on duty was able to help with some compensation which was appreciated. Travelers be warned however, vehicle rental past 6pm at KC airport with Dollar or Hertz will leave you stranded and alone.

I reserved an Economy car, I got an SUV, I paid over $26 more in fuel than I wanted. If they can't provide the car reserved they should not advertise they have one so I could have moved onto another company. You should not support companies that cannot provide what has been requested.

The counter was closed prior to the scheduled closing time. We were unable to pick up our rental under this reservation and had to check nearby counters that were still open to try to find an available rental. The entire fiasco ended up costing us more than double the original reservation. How will we receive compensation for the unacceptable incompetence?

Cons:

You could have remained open until your scheduled closing time or at least until our scheduled pickup. We called ahead once the plane was on the ground and no one ever picked up despite it being 15 minutes prior to our reservation.

Our flight was delayed, the rental office was closed at the airport when we arrived at 1205am. No options but to wait there till 7am to get car. Spent $185 for a cab and hotel that wasn't in our travel plans or budget. No help or discount from budget rental!!!

Getting from baggage claim to Payless terminal had to stand in long lines to get on the bus. The customer service agent was very nice and friendly. We ended up getting an electric car, but never told us about what charging stations we could use being not familiar with that type of electric car and where the charging stations were a big problem wasted a lot of time during our driving experience, trying to find chargers that would work.

Was serviced by Avis. Long checkout line, once in the car took 30 mins to get out of the rental lot. Declined additional protection, but was charged anyway. Gas tank was 1/3 full when I received the car.

The first thing they did was upgrade me without my permission, and I didn’t find out about the upgrade and the charges until checking the car back in. Secondly, they sent me to a car which was filthy – it hadn’t been washed/cleaned inside or out. And finally, I was just outside the gates of the rental car facility when I looked down and found that I had less than a half a tank of gas. Overall, less than impressive experience.

Showed up after a 30 minute delayed flight, no one at the counter to assist. Actually have a clerk at the counter that can assist during later hours. Or, if you're going to partner with another rental agency and defer your customers to their desk, make sure that desk is staffed. Avis did and was able to match your rate and earn my future business.

It was very snowy/icy. It would have been nice for the car to have been cleared of snow and ice upon pickup.
