They were very clean even though under construction. Staff very friendly and helpful.
The breakfast was a little rough but they were under construction so was in temporary location.
Effort to update rooms with new carpet, paint, decor and tv friendly desk staff. Coffee was good. was fine for just one night
bathroom old, dingy tile. areas of paint over bad spots on walls. looked like just superficial updating. breakfast was subpar, food counters to crowded, low class with home kitchen crockpots, no serving spoon rests. eating area too small and quickly congested. Microwave was FILTHY and didn't even work. Shelf it sat on also dirty and rickety appearing.
Good location near interstate. Friendly front desk. OK value. Room itself seemed clean and comfortable.
Breakfast did not have coffee. Slight odor throughout. Common areas not clean and tidy.
This isn't a really great hotel but you can't expect a Baymont to be. I was there for a football game and paid quite a bit for the room, but that was to be expected for a football game. There was a breakfast that was very adequate, the room was perfectly fine, and the location isn't too bad, its just sort of tucked back. When I stay at a hotel like this I have lower expectations and this hotel met or exceeded everything I reasonably expected from it.
I knew where it was before booking so it isn't really a knock on the hotel, but if you are looking to go out in downtown Iowa City I would look for a hotel closer. It can be a pain to get transportation back to here late at night. If you do find it, it can be a little pricey so consider it if a closer hotel is only a little more expensive.
