Cons:

I rented a small car for my significant other and I to go to Vegas for the weekend. I arrived to pick-up the vehicle and the lady was going to give me a large van. She told me since I paid for the manager special that van was the special for the day. I told her, that is too big and she said that is the last car she has. I told her to cancel and she said she couldn't so I went to Enterprise and luckily they had a vehicle for me at the last moment. Hertz credited me for the rental but Hertz should've of notified me about the van in advance. There website said a similar vehicle, a van is not similar to the car I rented. Can you imagine how much gas I would've used?

Pros:

The Camry was a perfect fit for our family of four. It appeared newer and in better shape than a car with 33k miles--well maintained! It got >40 MPG on my drive to and from AZ.

Cons:

I did not experience the two staff at pick up as very warm or attentive. One was already helping someone, but the second, who appeared to be doing computer work (she had no one in front of her being helped), barely acknowledged me and made no effort to help me. Finally, a third worker appeared.

I thought pick up was speedy and the plus was I was able to get a free up grade to an automatic. I had pre purchased car insurance through what I thought was Kayak like the car rental, but Alamo wouldn’t accept the coverage and had to repurchase car insurance at the airport. My car did have a low tire pressure light come on a few hours after renting. It appeared fine to the eye and since we were staying local, we didn’t return the car to Alamo.

The Alamo service was great. The car was horrible. I had to drive it for 4 hours to get to my destination and it was so uncomfortable. the worse are I have ever driven.

Car class reserved not available. Wait estimated at 1h. Class above immediately available but was asked to pay an upgrade! Took a lower class (no refund there...). Was informed that any breakdown would cost me 290$ for intervention, after I mentioned I was using my credit card insurance. And funnigly, the car I was given had a permanent hand brake alarm problem despite hand brake unlocked. this at pick up, but i didn't have time anymore to exchange. Gd thing I did only a small number of km.... Not a good experience this time. thks best Sylvain

Everything went smoothly. The only option for renting on a weekend, Sunday, was at the airport. A local office would be nice. Light rail access to the airport made this possible.

Once I got past the hard sell at the checkin/rental desk, all went well. Had a nice Camry with less than 20,000 miles. Return was easy; no issues. Would rent from Dollar at PDX again.

The car was not available an hour after scheduled pick up and the line was too long for me to wait as I had movers waiting for me at my home. I asked the person at the front counter what I could do and they told me I would have to wait. No ETA or timeline offered. After I left, I checked back to see if it was available that afternoon-still no car available. Even an hour before my scheduled drop-off it said that the car was not yet available online. Worst experience working with a rental car company ever.

I loved the car loved the easy pick up and return of the rental car. The airport made it very self explanatory to get the car back with white letters on the road to direct you back to the rental car return. Made me smile. I had to extend my rental due to not finishing the work I came down for and the company made it very easy to extend.

They did not have my reservation and blamed Kayak. They tried to upsell me another car for $100 more and force me to pay insurance even though I have local insurance, international insurance, and insurance via my credit card.

I was able to choose the exact car I wanted and was even able to reserve a cooler and boogie board to use for the week. The car was in like-new condition. The free shuttle was convenient, fast and the drivers were nice. The location was a little bit further from the airport, but it wasn't a problem.

It was the first time we rented via Turo, so I don't have a good base reference to compare in general, and can only compare to car rental experiences with commercial fleets (like Budget or Enterprise). In general it was okay -- we made it to where we were going and back, with no major issues. It's doable. However, there were some "surprises" where things didn't quite got as we expected: * We made rental reservation with expectation that we're picking up at the airport. When we got there, it turned out that the car is not at the airport, and the address given to us turned out to be what seemed to be Portland's airport Fire Rescue Tower (where, obviously, we can't even walk to or be at). We called the owner, and turned out that the car is at some house that's "not far" from the airport, and gave us new address. So additional expense of taking Uber/Lyft to get to the car (and apparently that address exists in two neighboring towns, and somehow Uber/Lyft took us first to the wrong one, so we had to take another ride, but that's not a Turo issue, just more expense as a consequence of car not being at the airport as promised). * When we got there, we called the owner to get the keys: "-- Keys are under front door's floormat. -- Nope, they're not there. -- Then try mailbox? -- Yes, they're there." The owner wasn't there, which is okay to do this all remote, but would be nicer if owner was in general "on top of things" such as where the car is and where it is expected to be picked up, where exactly are its keys, etc. * Then owner requested that prior to return we take the car to be washed and cleaned inside and out. We neither planned on looking for car detailing places in Portland, nor for time that it would take away from sightseeing, nor for extra substantial expense it would be. We pushed back and the owner backed off saying that he'll let it go due to confusion with pickup location (and apparently he didn't send some email that he was supposed to send, or something along those lines). * And while the car wasn't too dirty, it wasn't clean to begin with (which made detailing request that more amusingly odd). Crumbs on floor and seats and luggage compartment. Worst part was that windshield was dirty on the inside that was minor unpleasant at daytime, but as driving progressed into night time, it was quite significant as it was blurring lights and affected visibility substantially. * We also added additional driver thru Turo and let the owner know. The owner requested that we send him picture of drivers license directly to him. We refused (as it didn't seem right, given that Turo is the one that manages that aspect) and he backed off. * Of course, additional expense of Uber/Lyft after return drop-off as we weren't dropping it off at the airport as originally planned. So all in all we probably spent additional $50-60 in Uber/Lyft for getting to and from cars location instead of it being in the airport, and lost about 3+ hours for dealing with additional unplanned travel. The rest was okay. Car drove fine and didn't give any problems.
