We enjoyed our stay at the westin except that there are no soda vending machines anywhere in the hotel. We thought it was ridiculous that if you want a soda in the middle of the night you have to order it from room service. The soda cost $3.00, there is a $2.00 delivery charge plus a 15% gratuity added to it! I was very disappointed and felt like it was a huge rip off and also felt the hotel didnt offer any vending machines so they could make this little bit of extra money off of us. I have never stayed at a hotel that didnt have a soda machine on the property!
Nice resort, food is average, nice beach. High priced if you but anything at the resort. leave and you get twice as much entertainment, drinks, food for your money. Bath Tub in room was flaking. TV does not come in clear at all. had service man there 3 times and he could not get it any better. we did have to call front desk twice to get someone in to clean room and change towels since was not done at 730 pm at night.
the room is small and bathroom dank. Their bed called 'Westin Heavenly Bed' is high as the heaven. I had to jump onto it every night. The bed also tilt to one side with me finally succumbing one night and fell off. The front desk would not fix but offered a new room. The new room stank, literally. The prices at their in house restrarunt is INSANE!
We paid extra for 'ocean front' not pool and ocean view however the dead palm leaves left us with no view unless you bent over to see anything notta that was when we asked to be moved to the room we paid for that was day one we are tired.....they said not until Tuesday We had arrived on Day 16 march We came there for our Anniversary the only time we had left the United States of America being so excited opening the curtains to see and hear the ocean did not happen so we had to pack again to move to our requested paid for room But we cant wait to get back to the great staff beach pool bar everything you could want quick faster than you can imagine We enjoyed our stay though we had to wait 4 days to move to a great room. not that you care by the end of the day tooo much fun sun liquor feeling at home by the staff made it a great place Jan And Bob
Hotel rooms are ourdated but they have a beautiful beach. Absolutely DO NOT eat at the restaurants in the hotel. Expensive and food was bland and below average. I had breakfast and after eating 2 pieces of toast without paying attention to it, I noticed mold on the crust of the third piece. I was disgusted but politely informed the waiter who seemed to not care, and had been rude throughout our meal. After ten minutes he came back to apologize, probably because his manager told him to, but did not offer to take the charge of the plate off the bill. I paid $20 for 2 eggs, 2 sausage, and moldy toast! however, The Concierge was wonderful in helping book tables at restaurants off site. I recommend Cracked Conch and Guy Harvey's as well as Hammerheads for excellent food!
The location of this hotel is spectacular. The beach was right there and the water was actually warmer in the ocean than the pool.Pool was beautiful but cold. Food very good. Pool bartender was not very nice and cocky. There was an excellent hungarian bartender that served us lunch with pleasent conversation and excellent service. Cocktail servers at the pool were all very good and friendly. The Bed at the Westin was just as it is advertised...Heavenly! We enjoyed the Starbucks coffee in our room. Also a special thank you to Anthony at the front desk who made our honeymoon, perfect! WOULD GO BACK AGAIN! We did get charged an additional $16.25 after we closed our billl out 4 days after our departure which I am disputing. Hopefully it will disappear off my credit card.
Good hotel. Was under renovation during our stay , but our room and entire 5th floor appeared to be complete. Several other floors were closed. One of the restaurants was closed, but we ate out at other locations anyway. Pool was nice and the beach was great. Watersports were on site. Weather was just OK. Rained everyday but we did have some periods of sun. We paid for WiFI the 1st day until we realized it was free in the lobby. We were not told of that at any point until we say everyone in the lobby on thier computers did we check. Overall I would recommend the hotel again.
I just returned on Monday, Sept 11 from a 10 night stay at the Westin Casuarma. Weather was perfect throughout our entire stay. Hotel occupancy was minimal due to the off season period. The rooms are a fair size, nicely appointed and very clean. We had an oceanfront room but the palm trees obstructed the view a bit. If you want a full oceanfront view, you should make it clear with the front desk that you do not want ANY obstruction. The main entrance of the hotel is completely closed off due to construction so the side parking lot entrance is serving as the temporary main entrance. The beach is beautiful, and the water fantastic. You can swim out pretty far and the visibility is still great. The watersports activities center situated within the hotel grounds is very convenient. I recommend the StingRay City excursion! Buy your own water (store available across the street) as a large bottle available in the room will cost you $7 USD. I highly recommend renting a car as taxis are quite expensive. Prices are stated in Cayman Island dollars (approx .80 Cayman dollars = 1.00 USD), and a minimum of 15% gratuity is automatically added to restaurant bill in the hotel and most of the restaurants on the island. Check out a restaurant called 'Alfresco' - about 3 miles from the hotel. Great food and wonderful location right on the water.
THE HOTEL: Great value for the money. The rooms were very clean and renovated (especially the bathroom). the bed was very comfy. the hotel is located in the great location close by to other resorts and restaurants. the staff was very friendly and helpful all the time! THE DIVE SHOP was pretty good, apart from having water sports related activities, the variety of dive selection was also a great option to explore the island's waters. Free wifi in the lobby. FOR DIVERS: Do not miss the Kittiwake shipwreck dive. the water is scary clear!! also, the sting ray city is a must, you get to pet and feed sting rays!
I read the reviews before deciding and my boyfriend and I were very pleased. The staff is great, we were upgraded to a partial ocean view - free of charge, the beautiful beach is a few feet away and it was an amazing experience. We ate breakfast across the street at Eats Cafe which is quite affordable and we had dinner a couple of times at Legends which is next to Eats Cafe. For some nightlife we went to the Royal Palms. Overall, great hotel and great island!!
Great location, nice hotel, but staff needs a dose of hospitality!! They never smile, act annoyed by questions, and have 'smart' replies for almost everything. We found the island and resort lovely....but the people need some work!!
My daughter 9 and i stayed a week and were treated with the upmost respect and professionalism. Abigail at the front counter went above and beyond to make us feel welcome thank you. Many great things about staying at this hotel is that you dont have to go anywhere you have everything within walking distance. If your looking to do fun things with the kids ask Carol in hotel lobby and she will make your vacation that much better from swimming with the dolphins, sting ray city and horse back riding (in the ocean) all are must do while on vacation. we had so much fun we are going back in December
We read reviews and thought there was no way it could be that great of a place to stay. Well.. it was. Awesome! Everyone was friendly. The place was spotless. It was one of the best vacations we've had. We actually changed the date of our vacation so we could stay at the Westin. So glad we did. Can't wait to go back!!
If it was not for the fact it was like vacationing at a giant screaming daycare I would have liked this place. However there must have been around 50+ infants, and more Toddlers running around screaming. I saw one child that had a very dirty diaper run out of its diaper into the pool. So much for me swimming in that. I would not stay here again.
Not pleased tha the pool was totally torn up. Being handicapped and unable to go in the lean this was a huge disappointment
The service was good, but this is an old hotel that needs renovation and is not at par with other Westin Hotels that I have been to. The room oerlooking the garden faces the road and is noisy. Should have selected the oceanfront rooms if for more money.
The hotel was nice, however, I was expecting so much more for being a resort/4 star hotel. For a little extra money I could have stayed at a really nice hotel right next door. The staff was great eventhough it took them very long to find our reservation.
This is our second time to return to the resort. We were excited but were soon let down. The room they gave us was wet so we went back to the front desk to request a room change. They did not have another ocean front room to give us but the resort was not crowded so that was hard to believe. The staff did not ever call to check on us. After three days it smelled so bad that the housekeeper had maintenace put a fan in the room to help dry it out. That evening I called the front desk again and the night shift manager on duty (very nice) did switch our room but it was wet as well but at least it didn't smell as bad. The bellman on staff were always friendly as well as the staff who serve the punch and fruit in the evenings. The location of the hotel is nice with wonderful access to the beach. The pools could be really nice but the cushions on the lounge chairs are stained and worn. They told us that the hotel is being remodeled with new management so I'm sure that will help because as of now I would not return. We paid too much money for the experience.
Exterior looked great, liked the private beach front but the room quality, furniture, carpeting, bathroom was low not of a four star quality. Resort needs major remodeling. The hotel charges $20 per day resort fee but they do not offer free or reasonable internet service charges or descent beach towel quality.
The pristine Westin of 2004 is no longer. The service is great, but the property is just not as well maintained as it should be. Rust stains, fraying carpet, peeling wallpaper, dusty rooms (In the places they don't expect you to look) is what I found. Service at the pool and beach was also great, but for my money, I will book elsewhere next time.
Just returned and would not be a repeat visitor. Althought the staff was very accomodating and helpful, the overall resort, expecially the rooms needed some refurbishing. The rooms are very basic and not what we expected. I would, however, recommend dining in their four star restaurant which was as good or better than others we tried on the island.
Not worth the money paid. Dont stay there if you want to avoid kids. Hit and miss service.
Until two years ago we were regular guests each winter. We spent $* to $* at the Westin each year over a six year period. We increasingly became frustrated with poor service and a indifferent attitude. For $* per day, we expect more. We finally got to the breaking point when accosted by the housekeeping staff after we reported that our door was left open. The reaction of hotel management. NONE. They could care less. Then we asked for a second packet of coffee for the in-room coffee maker. The maid did not accomodate. When we called the front desk they said that all the coffee was locked up. Wow, maids have free run of all the hotel rooms but cannot be trusted with $* packets of coffee. Then we called for managment. They were in a meeting... we would have to wait. Finally after repeated calls we got a call from a manager inquiring coldly.. ' what is it that you need?'. When a maid fnally delivered the packet of coffee, she acted as if we complained about her. Nice attitude!! Finally, when we checked out we took time to fill out the questionare to Hotel management, listing our tele. number and requesting a call. Guess what, they didn't call. They couldn't be botthered to mollify a disgruntled customer. The attitude of the Westin is that guests should feel grateful just to stay at their fine facility. Message to the Westin from Tom Walker.... We are still waiting for your call.
This is a 3 star Hotel. Not up to the Westin standards of the US. Has its probs and conbs. Pros Great!!! Location right in the middle of 7 mile beach. The beach is easy access, gentle waves, and clear, picture perfect water. Pool was nicely shaped and had separate sections so you could move to areas of activity or quiet depending on the quests you were sharing with. Plenty of sun and shade all day long. Swim up bar was nice but also shows up as a con below. Room was clean and made-up mid-day everyday. (We stayed for 6 nights). Cons We booked an bOcean Frontb but received an bOcean Viewb. Front is Front. We had to go out on our balcony and look to the side to see the bOceanb. Staff just shrugged their shoulders and acted like English wasnbt their language. Room was clean but our carpet had a huge stain even though the carpet looked fairly new. We booked 3 people and got 2 double beds. Would have expected Queen beds in a Westin. There was no sleeper couch, when we asked for a roll-away bed they stated that only an air mattress was available because of fire codes. Restaurants didnbt offer much daily type dinning. Over priced so we went across the street as most of the other guests did. The Westins is missing a revenue opportunity by letting their guests spend their money at the competition. SMOKING allowed at pool, pool swim-up bar. Westin claims to be bSmoke-Freeb. Not here.
We've stayed here twice but will probably book at the Ritz for this year's diving trip. The food could use a little improvement but overall we were happy with the regular restaurant. The ''fine'' dining restaurant required that I wore something other than flip-flop style high-heels; they were a higher fashion type and I was also wearing a dress, but the people were staunch about their regulations. Big disappointment. We never got to try the fine dining so I can't comment on that food. We ventured out to the local businesses instead who were happy to take our vacation cash.
