Modern hotel in a historical environment. BEST WESTERN PREMIER Hotel Katajanokka fulfils the expectations of travellers looking for an exceptional quality. Inside the old brick walls, a fascinating world of contrasts opens up to a modern premier-class hotel built in a historic prison setting. The red brick walls house 106 magnificent and luxurious rooms. Stylish decor and unique atmosphere effectively take your mind away from the busy working day and intensive travelling. The thick walls ensure a good night's sleep and first class conveniences are available to meet even the most demanding requirements. The verdant and spacious Linnanpuisto Park surrounding the hotel provides an ideal opportunity to relax. In the summer guests can sit on the idyllic terrace under the shade of maple trees and listen to the muted city sounds. In this peace and quiet it is easy to forget that downtown Helsinki is just 10 minutes away by tram. By walking the trip takes about 15 minutes. The oldest part of BEST WESTERN PREMIER Hotel Katajanokka dates back to 1837 and the main part to 1888. The building originally served as a county prison and pretrial detention centre. The prison was closed down in 2002. The open central corridor, red brick outer walls and the high wall around the park are protected by the National Board of Antiquities and serve as a reminder of the building's long and colourful history. Following extensive restoration work, a high-quality and modern hotel opened its doors in May 2007. BEST WESTERN PREMIER Hotel Katajanokka is the first Premier hotel in Finland for the World's Biggest Hotel Family, Best Western. The standard meets the needs of customers who are accustomed to the highest quality.
Staying in a old prison is a great experience and they've done it so beautifully. The staff is nice and helpful. Breakfast is good (although the herring is really salty). The rooms are comfortable and the bathrooms are really nice.
It's a little out of town but that's what you'd expect from a prison. It's not like they are in the center
I enjoyed the feeling of authentic design; it was different, but not too much so. The restaurant was excellent.
A fancy place located on a lovely island close to the city centre
A little bit of extra variety to the breakfast menu would be nice
Interesting to stay in a converted prison, keeping some the original features. Good location, there was a tram stop right outside to the city centre.
I was there when it snowed. They could have sanded the flight of steps a bit earlier.
The hotel is very nice and confortable. The position is good to visit the city because it's in front of tram stop and near to the Viking Line's port. The room is really warmful and clean. The breakfast is gorgeus: there are whatever you can image for an international breakfast.
very original place, my first time in a prison. Few tram stops from town center. Good breakfast.
The novel idea of a hotel set within a former prison. Very nice decor
