I experienced several issues with this rental. The electric vehicle I originally reserved was not available when I arrived, so I had to take a manual car instead. Later, when extending the rental, I switched to an automatic vehicle. During the trip it was very difficult to manage the reservation. My booking could not be found on the Hertz website or on Kayak using the reservation number, driver’s license, or my last name. Because of this I could not manage the booking online and had to try to reach the rental office by phone many times. The automated phone system was only in French and did not allow switching languages, which made it difficult to understand the options. I even had to purchase a local SIM card in order to try to reach the branch. When I finally spoke with a representative and later visited the branch, they kindly helped extend the rental and exchange the vehicle. However, the additional charges related to these changes were not clearly explained. I was also surprised to see charges such as a fuel fee despite returning the car with a full tank. I am currently contacting Hertz to review these charges.

Where to begin? Picked this car up around 9:30pm. I had already driven away from the rental facility when I noticed a couple of problems with the car. Firstly, the petrol tank was not full but only 7/8 (the gauge is misleading at first sight). But worse than that was that one of the safety features (the Active Lane Management system) was not working at all and flagged up a warning that the vehicle needed servicing to repair it. Then, when returning the car less than 18 hours later, the system at the Hertz counter would not initially accept the return of the vehicle due to excessive mileage of some 21,000 miles that I supposedly had driven in those 18 hours. This turned out to be a mistake on the outgoing mileage which instead of 23,000 had been logged into the system as 2,000. This was eventually resolved by the staff at the counter, but just added to the feeling that this was a dreadful rental.

Be careful renting from Hertz in Naples Center. We were recently ripped off. We secured a guaranteed rate on our Hertz rental before leaving for Italy. This was confirmed by Hertz itself! While travelling to the Central train station for our car pick-up, we received an email saying that our reservation had been cancelled. This was 2 hours before our scheduled pick-up time! When we arrived at Hertz we were told that there was no explanation for why the reservation was cancelled but they still had our car available an we could still rent it but we would have to pay and additional 100 Euros for the week, We were captive and had to take the car. It appeared to be a pre-meditated scam, like a street vendor putting jewelry on your wrist then insisting that you pay him for it!. I will be reaching out to Hertz itself to get some resolve and will be happy to report if we are ever able to get satisfaction. Be very careful and, I suppose, always pre-pay. So surprising and disappointing for a company like Hertz!

It was a terrible experience. They didn't have the car I had reserved ready and were unable to resolve the problem they themselves had created. The staff who attended to me were indifferent to the situation and, to a certain extent, rude, saying that the reservation could not be fulfilled and that I should not complain since they had not charged me anything. After the situation, they did not contact me at any time. I would not use Hertz again or recommend them in the future.

When I picked up my rental they told me I'd rented an electric car...nowhere in any selection or rental agreement did it say anything about electric. My destination was in an apartment parking garage and I'd have no access to a charger so I told them electric wouldn't work. They said my only option was to upgrade for an additional $120. They gave me a Jeep Compass that was filthy on the outside. Poor experience all around.
