This hotel seems unreasonably pricey, especially given the competition and its location. The lounge downstairs is not only kinda lame (we went elsewhere), but so unnecessarily loud that we could hear it on the 6th floor at 2am. The room was beautiful, but sparsely appointed as were the bathroom toiletries a little lacking. Morimoto's is a MUST however, their fusion breakfast menu was just amazingly delicious. The pools were ok, the adults only version only ankle deep, and the main pool alright - i certainly had pool envy while strolling the strip! The desk staff were ok, nothing outstanding, although the concierge who helped me went so far as to print off yoga schedules for me which was handy. Had one mix-up on a room service order but that was taken care of in a timely manner. Not sure if I would stay again, there are nice hotels closer to the action, but glad i tried The Modern!
This turned out to be a great vacation spot. I loved that the place wasn't overcrowded with package plan tourist groups. The pool area was relaxed so both families with children and singles could enjoy it together. I didn't use the adult pool area, because its not a pool. If you are sunbathing next to the pool, you want to jump in and cool off. Ankle deep water may make for a pretty picture or place to have a evening cocktail, but its too hot during the day to be practical. The room was comfortable. The bed made for a perfect nights rest. Loved the big shower. I was worried that I would hear the night club, but only heard a few loud guests returning to their room. The food was great, best hotel food I have ever had, However the Mai tai was lame. Tasted like a little OJ with white rum. I look forward to a return visit.
The Modern was a great hotel, the rooms were spacious and clean. The pools were tremendous. The only negative side was the food at the hotel was pricey compared to just about anywhere else you could go.
My wife and I stayed at the Modern Honolulu celebrating our 10th wedding anniversay. The place was absolutely wonderful in all areas I can think. The decor was very modern without being stuffy. The staff was professional and friendly. The location was convenient to all of the major attractions in Waikiki. We would absolutely stay here again if we are fortunate to return to Oahu.
My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon. The ocean view suite was beautiful and we enjoyed every night during our 12 day stay. Service was impeccable, peoe were friendly and gave great advice for sightseeing and delicious restauants. Food in the hotel was great, a little pricey but worth it! Maids came twice a day with water and ice so the rooms were always clean. I would stay here again in a heartbeat. Cool relaxing atmosphere! In walking distance to everything great
Our whole experienceat theModern was great. From the second we arrived until we left the staff did everything they could to make sure we had an enjoyableexperience.
We loved our stay at The Modern. We ate dinner at Morimoto's and also over the banana macadamia nut pancakes. Our ocean room view room was nearly perfect except for the worn carpet. Catherine made sure we had a room on the upper floor. She was lovely. The bartenders at the pool area and also at the Library were awesome. This hotel had a little bit of a Vegas feel. We enjoy boutique style hotels. The waiter that waited on us each morning at Morimoto's was incredible. We felt it was definitely worth the money.
WE had reservations for a King bed and got two doubles. No patio. You had to call the front desk to get ice, and then only a small amount was delivered and we ended up tipping, preferred to get it ourselves. No self parking... If you came from across parking bridge with luggage, no directions on how to find the lobby which was downstairs... Beds were hard and platform style, so platform sticks out and easy to trip on at night.... Not overly impresses with hotel. Pool area was spectacular though.
Beautiful hotel, I loved, loved the pools. The staff at the pool were very friendly and courteous. The first words out of my mouth when I walked into the room 'wow, nice, love the bathroom'. But then reality set in...I had to really be careful to not walk into the corner of the platform bed. I hit it twice and bruised my ankles. the mattress is not comfortable, every morning woke up with a backache. The shower is narrow and I kept bumping into the soap, shampoo and conditioner holder. If they move that holder say next to the water temperature controls, it would be perfect. They only gave us one full roll and 1/2 a used roll of bathroom tissue, very thin bathroom tissue. We used it up by the 3rd day and we had to ask for another roll to be delivered and it never arrived. Overall, its a nice hotel and would probably stay there again.
Me and my daughters are very satisfy about this travel. We had a good services and the staffs very polish. The room is very nice and cleanliness, its a good hotel to go, I like it. the only thing we don't have free breakfast, I would like to have free breakfast in the morning thank you for everything.
I expected more from this luxury hotel after researching it online. It was ok and didn't quite feel like a luxury experience like we've had at other hotels. You also have to take a taxi or a very long walk to Waikiki. The hotel has a very chic vibe and looks new, but the service is spotty. The best part of the service is housekeeping because they came in the morning and again at night to turn down the bed and replace any used towels. But it's pretty downhill from there. The valet and bellmen seemed absent minded and did not offer to help us with our bags (there are some stairs from the valet to the entry door). The front desk had a short line, and we saw the people in front of us get a drink while they checked in, but we were not offered one. Maybe we weren't cool enough. The restaurant hostess acted like she was doing us a big favor by giving us a table without a reservation, but by the time we left, the restaurant was not even close to being full. They do have a nice pool area where you can order drinks and food. Too bad they got our drink order wrong. The rooms are very clean and beds are comfortable. Both me and my girlfriend has things broken in our rooms. The outlet in my bathroom did not work and my friend's TV did not work when we checked in. They fixed my friend's TV but not my outlet. I used the hair dryer in the bedroom, no big deal but a mirror would have been nice. And watch out for the bed frame! We accidentally kicked it a few times. Overall it is a nice looking hotel but we felt the staff did not like us or just did not want to be there.
Great location, friendly personnel, clean & comfortable room.
The Modern is a excellent hotel for those seeking a relaxed yet upscale experience without all the pretentiousness that one typically finds in an 'upscale hotel'. The rooms are modern in both fixtures and decor with a nice feeling of quality all about. WiFi is ubiquitous in the hotel and its grounds. There are nice personal service touches to be found at every turn from nice bath sandals in the room to eco-friendly bath products. The rooms are sufficiently spacious with abundant light and decorated is a elegant shades of white. Each room has a colorful Ukulele (which you can play with if you like) and several Hawaiian print wraps (cover-ups or large bandanas) hanging up in the room for a nice Hawaiian touch. The Modern's location is a short two block walk to the beach at Wikiki and across the street from the yacht harbor. It is both in the middle of the action and closely adjacent to many of the 'places to be' in Wikiki (and is even one of those 'places to be' in the evenings with its own night club in off the lobby hiding behind swing-away book case.) The Modern also sports two pool decks with plenty of places to sit and relax in the sun while having the support of a wait staff backed by a full bar and restaurant. The rooms do pick up a some city noise at night... but its no more than you would experience in any urban hotel. Overall... A great stay, a great and friendly staff, excellent rooms, and close to the best parts of the beach at Wikiki.
About 90% of the rooms overlook an old parking garage or an even older apartment building. The windows in this hotel are single-pane meaning that you can hear everything that happens outside. This is a problem on Saturday night when the lobby of this hotel converts into a club. I had to switch rooms 2x because my first room's AC system did not work and my second rooms sliding glass door would not close. Unless you stay on the very end of the hotel facing the water, there is zero view. This hotel is partially water view BUT NOT WATERFRONT. They charge water front prices but the hotel is not. There is a large ugly marina separating the hotel from the water. You have to walk about 1,000 feet to get to the water. The pool is tiny and I mean tiny. The pictures on the website really oversell the pool area. My wife could not find a chair to lay out in and had to wait for about 30 min for someone to get up. It felt like a crowded gym where you have to wait to get on a machine. I have been to Honolulu about a dozen times. There are some great hotels here but this one isn't it. If you stay here, you will likely be disappointed. I
