Location is great: all sightseeings within walking distance. Rooms are OK. Staff is extremely nice, but they know about hotel reviews on Internet and ask you to give them a good review.
You will get no sleep in Istanbul. It's not the hotel's fault, but there are big speakers right in front of it. At 4.45 am every night there were very loud calls for prayers from the nearby mosques. Every hotel in the old town will have this problem. Also the traffic is loud. The curtains did not close, so light came in every morning 6.00 am.
The hotel is on the main road in the old town of Istanbul and thus conveniently located for the sights. Most guests would stay between 1 and 2 nights max. which is probably as much as one can endure without (a good night's) sleep. Cleanliness is o.k. Service is friendly enough and trying, but....
This is one of the noisiest locations ever with trams passing, restaurant visitors cheering, generators running, guests talking/arguing in hotel corridors, bathroom noises at least 20/7. We stayed at both side/front and back rooms but there is simply no chance one can escape the noise anywhere in this hotel. Rooms are run-of-the-mill and rather dated. Breakfast is a basic and uncharitable affair not to be compared with other hotels in this category. Expect to pay extra if you want a decent cup of coffee. Steer clear of other meals, e.g. dinner!! The awkward/messy Hamam/Sauna (without a shower) area in the basement at €20 extra is to be avoided. Bottom line: Prices are on the high side - and, by no means is this a 4 star hotel !!
Clean, good service, good facilities, great location, value for money
We heard rumors that the Hotel use to to do overbooking, so sometimes moves visitors to nearby hotels
Central position, availability of the staff, possibility of massage, excellent ratio price/quality
Good location for sight seeing and transport links. Good clean rooms, excellent staff and service, great breakfast buffet.
The mattress in the room was uncomfortable.
Everything was ok , no problems during check in. Breakfast - nothing special. Room was clean - that was most important.
Location, most staff polite and helpful
The statement about internet access on the website led me to expext more. In fact ther was only a not entirely releible wireless connection in the lobby area. This meant it was hard for me to work. This si a tourist hoel raher than a business one.
Both service and location: The reception is professional and extremely helpful, the rest of the staff are also very friendly and pleasant. The hotel is comfortable and in walking distance to major tourist sites. (We are from Canada, we stayed in this hotel in late August, 2007 for 3 nights. This is our first experience with this hotel.)
Everything! The hotel itself was immaculate -- the room was superb; the location was fantastic, and the staff was extremely courteous. We unconditionally recommend the Empire Palace!
