There seem to be three levels of room quality. We stayed in the cheapest of the three. It may be a better value to stay in one of the upper levels, as they include a fabulous buffet breakfast, free internet (I think), and coffee pots in the room. Separately, these sevices (internet and breakfast) are expensive. We would have loved an easy chair in the room also. Overall, we were very pleased.
The hotel was more than I expected. The way they have maintain the convent and the service was great.
The grounds were spectacular. Steeped in history and spirituality. we were surrounded by beauty outside the room. Unfortunatley the hotel room we had, backed up to a street with a bar directly across from us and the noise was tremendous til 3 in the morning. the staff was indifferent and a bit arrogant. They were less than helpful with a much needed internet connection. If we were to go back, we would definitley ask for an interior room facing the magnificent courtyard. However, I doubt that we will try this particular hotel ever again
The Camino Real was amazing?my husband and I spent the week there to celebrate his birthday. It was so beautiful (amazing gardens and architecture of the old monastery) and the staff was extremely friendly. It was very romantic- and located near all the best sights. Everyone in Oaxaca was friendly, but the hotel staff really went out of their way to make us feel welcome. We took several day trips, and the concierge even set us up with a cooking class with a local chef. we had a great time learning Oaxacan recipes. The pool at the hotel and the breakfast were also highlights. A charming and romantic experience- we will definitely return!
The good:\nGreat location\nThe best security\nBeautiful grounds\nMostly helpful staff\n\nThe bad:\nNot very clean\nQuestionable billing practices\nVery expensive compared to other regional hotels of this quality\n\nThe worst:\nPublic areas were often closed for private events including the pool area. Not only was this awkward, key facilities were unusable for extended periods of time.\n\nRecommendation: stay for one night just to see the grounds, check your bill very carefully on checkout, and then move to another hotel.
Stunningly beautiful restoration and great value for the money. The staff was gracious and helpful and the pool was very large and nice. There are four individual courtyards overflowing with flowers and each had it's distinct qualities. You feel like being in an oasis from the town. Even the street front rooms were not noisy and we would love to stay here again.
