Mosquitos, poor service, poor food (bar food OK), broken equipment, stench around the corner from the Check-in area. The Divi people have lost control of their employees. Even Gizmo has a bad attitude! Don't waste your money here!
Breakfast, fridge and wifi should have been included in the rate. Minus for early check-out. The food in both restaurants was a a huge disapointment, absolutely no quality in the food and it was absolutely tasteless. The pizza I had there was not eaven eatable, it tasted worse than frozen pizza from the shop. Fresh fruit salad should have been included in the menu. The room did not have a fridge, wich I think should be normal standard in a hotel like this. We had to pay extra 30 USD to get it in the room. Big minus for not having free wifi. Best staff was in the hotel mini-market, Wendy so friendly and happy.
I am an active traveler and I found the 'hotel' (not resort) subpar. The hotel room was outdated with following issues - broke chest of drawers, chairs are stained, lumpy pillow, old TVs with no clear picture, old bathrooms, stains on walls. Service was ok, but don't expect maid service until later afternoons. And no free wi-fi, believe charge was over $10 a day. Best part.....beach and view.
This is a beautiful place if your looking to relax and enjoy good service and lovely people. It is close enough to all the action on the rest of the island but quiet and peaceful if you need a break.
This resort was quaint and comfortable. The staff was pretty good and not pushy. In particular. Mr. Russel the gentleman who drove us in his golf cart whenever we needed a lift up or down the hill was a pleasure to be around and never made us feel rushed. I would recommend this place to the middle class. If you are upper class, you will be disappointed.
Rooms are more like apartments with full kitchens and laundry facilities. This might be good for families with small children but not my cup of tea. Location is isolated although town is a short cab ride away. Too far to walk to anything. Poolside bar is fine. Buffet overpriced and very mediocre.
Overall, great hotel and loved the location. Beach is very private and is on its own cove, making our stay even more enjoyable. Our room was very clean and was newly renovated. Pool bar had delicious food and drinks! However, we did find ourselves going over to the French side for dinner.
The hotel has a beautiful view of the ocean. Grounds and rooms are very clean. The jets did not work in my tub and I asked twice to have the problem fixed, which never was done during my stay. Beach was very nice. The staff was not very friendly. Nice and quiet place. I never felt like we were crowed on the beach or anywhere on the property. The kitchen area was well equipped. There is a small grocery store on site which was handy..
The hotel was very nice, but the staff was unfriendly, unaccommodating, and unprofessional. At one point I called because our towels were not replaced and the front desk or housekeeping did not pick up the phone. I had to walk a long way just to tell the front desk that housekeeping did not replenish my towels. Then even the person at the front desk could not find any housekeeping staff. Also when dining at the resort we were treated very poorly by the restaurant staff. We were told there were no tables available when many tables existed. I don't recommend the food at this resort either.
We returned to Divi little bay for our 25th wedding anniversary, having not been there since our honeymoon. It was more than wonderful in every way. We stayed in a casita (a small free standing unit), which was very clean and private, which is what I would highly recommend. The kitchenet was well equipped, and was useful--especially the blender and refrigerator!. The bedroom was private from the living room and kitchenette. The little front porch was a very nice usable space w/ table and chairs. The bed was SO comfortable, the beach was quiet and used only by the guests, the manager's cocktail parties were fun, the sunset view was beautiful. I KNOW we will be returning here again! LOVED, LOVED, LOVED it! Perfect for those wanting a relaxing, quiet, carribbean beach vacation.
Nice beach. The first room we were in was horrible. Dirty, run down, no hot water. After complaining, moved us to better room with upgraded bath. Service was very slow through the entire vacation. Not much restaurant selection and food was average. Nice grounds, convenient beach & quiet pool. Location was good if you have a car, otherwise it was a taxi to everywhere - nothing to walk to. Wouldn't stay again - but all in all, not a terrible vacation.
Booked 2 nights in the facility waiting on a cruise ship. Very nice room, nicely appointed. BUT...onsite prices for food are OUTRAGEOUS and not very high quality. But worst of all completely unable to use the oceanview balcony. Why? MOSQUITO HELL. I should have realized there was a mosquito problem when all you see from the airport are ads for 'Mosquito netting, mosquito spraying, mosquito etc...! So beware, bring lots of good mosquito repellent because you will be swarmed at times. This is also a time share community and the sales pitch is made quite hard, just fyi.
We have been to St. Maarten twice now and both times stayed at Divi Little Bay Beach Resort. We love it so much we are thinking of purchasing one of the time shares there now. If you are looking for somewhere one the beach, inexpensive, relaxed and laid backed then look no further than Divi. From the minute you get in your room and step on the balcony you will understand what St. Maarten is all about. The Divi has a great little outdoor grill bar with patio seating or you can sit at the bar. There is a really nice restaurant that has indoor/outdoor seating. Some nights it will feature a theme like lobster night where they grill lobster outside etc.. Everyday the Pina Colada's are to 'DIE FOR' and during the day they have games like Bingo, etc.. There are several pools located in different locations on the property and infinity pools as well. Some rooms face the Little Bay and others the Big Bay. The staff is more than helpful and extremely polite. Be sure to make a trip to Philipsburg and get a good cab driver. Get his name, get a card from you or give him an approx. time to pick you back up and be sure to tip him good and he will look at for you the entire trip, With that I mean he will tell you where to go and where not to go. Everything (with the exception of the brothels and casinos I believe) closes at like 9 or 10pm. I mean doors locked and bars are over them. This is to keep the crime, rape, burgurly, etc rates down its the law there. Keep in mind each room also has a kitchenette. ENJOY!!!
Would stay again, very nice beach, very nice room, property felt safe. Great vacation! I read all of the reviews and feel that the majority of the negative ones are unfair. This place is a great value for a three star resort. Eat dinner outside of the resort, food was marginal and the island has some fantastic resturants.
I stayed 1 night at this hotel which should ne renamed 'The Mold and Misquito Motel'. It truly was an all night task killing bugs and the MOLD was a nightmare. The Pillows smelled something like a zoo just around the Elephant enclosure. The day staff was Very friendly. The resturant was VERY GOOD and of course the beach is always A Plus. My advice is to see your room first, then check in.
Beach is beautiful, good for swimming and snorkeling. Great location, nice tennis court, activities, good restaurant, reasonably priced. Quiet at night, great if you want a peaceful and relaxing trip. Hotel rooms are a little shabby. Try to get a studio or one bedroom since all the timeshares are newly renovated and beautiful. Great value for a wonderful resort.
Room spectacularly located right on the beach. Recently renovated and provided all the necessary amenities. Great little convenience store close by and staff was very helpful. Absolutely no signage from main road into the resort. Very peculiar. Would stay again. Decent value for the money.
Our stay at Divi was SUPERB! The rooms were clean and comfortable, and all of the rooms have been recently remodeled. When we first arrived, we stayed in a one-bedroom suite that had a beachfront view. The appliances in the suite were top-notch (Kitchen-Aid) and the accomodations were quite modern (flat screen tv, jacuzzi tub, jetted shower, etc). The staff was very hospitable and friendly. We were supposed to stay for three nights, but extended our stay one extra day! The second room we stayed in was a studio suite. It was just as comfortable, except it didn't have a full kitchen. The omelets at the Toucan Restaurant are highly recommended. The location is great, with a private beach, and it isn't too far from all of the excitement in Dutch St. Maarten. You can't go wrong staying at Divi.
When we walked in the room we were very elated at the modern room we were given. From the spread on the bed to the pictures on the wall, everything was coordinated with such color. It matched the picturesque view of the water. Very blue and calming. The bathroom was clean and modern. For the price we paid, we were not expecting such a nice room. The only thing, and not that I'm a tv watcher but there were only three channels and one of them was not the news. I never new what the weather was going to be like the next day. BBC or CNN should be added or included in the three channels. Otherwise I have no complaints about my room. I would definitely come back to this resort.
I thought the hotel was really nice at first. But the air conditioner was noisy. My neighbors were noisy. The hotel was extremely empty I don't wonder why. If you want to buy a condo they were really impressive. Otherwise nothing special.
The hotel received damage from hurricane Omar in October 08 unbeknowing to the online travel website i guess. The tennis court was out of service as was one pool and the only market to get munchies and beverages. Our morning wake-up call was construction outside our deck at 7:30 each morning. There was no weather stripping on our entry door to our room, so when it rained sideways every night we had our own pool in our hallway each morning that we had to go through to get to the bathroom. These gaps in the door also let in the mosquitos that feasted on my wife the first night. When we notified the front desk we were told to BUY bug spray with DEET and they handed us a insect fogger for the room. The antiquated air conditioner was so noisy that using it and sleeping were not an option, so the ceiling fan had to surfice. When we requested a new room we were told there were none available, the ''resort'' seemed half full to us. This place cares about one thing and one thing only...selling time share and that's it. They should not be in the hotel business as the front desk was uncareing and seemed to not want to be there either.
The hotel itself was average but the housekeeper for our room was not very good. We had to ask for more towels everyday and had to wash our coffee maker, cups and glasses ourselves. The front desk was helpful. The island is beautiful so we really enjoyed our stay otherwise.
First the trip was pre-paid for, but the front desk ran my credit card for $ 300.00 and asked me to sign the charge. I refused, I have had hotels take an imprint of my card, but not actually run a charge first. There were other guests complaining about this policy. They said we could not charge anything to the room since I would not pay them $ 300.00 up front, no problem. Then they could not find a bell man to take us to the room. Waited 25 minutes for that, got to the room, the maid had just arrived before us, so we waited on the balcony for the room to be cleaned. Called the manager and he did call back. I spoke about our experience and he sounded unconcerned. I asked that the hotel bring some coffee, sugar, and creamer to the kitchenette in our room. It never arrived. Drapes were torn, blanket on bed stained, rooms are separated from each other by glass block in some areas so adjoining room left bathroom light on all night and it is like having a light on in your room! Had breakfast first morning wait staff was inattentive had to find our own menus. Asked for Champagne glasses to celebrate new years they brought water goblets. I returned them to front desk, the sent me to restaurant manager, long ordeal but finally got glasses. Which I returned the next morning per their request. Tried breakfast one more time eggs benedict were cold returned food, and gave waitress credit card, (can't charge to the room remember) she said no charges under $ 20.00! There is much more but no room for all of the story. Filled out review card at front desk and online with no response from the hotel.
Resort is in a great location with close proximity to the shopping in Phillipsburg and direct beach aceess...snorkeling is great and the infinity pool is very relaxing...hotel staff was average at best - but the timeshare staff was very friendly and accomadating...Rental car is needed to see and really experience the island.
Dinner buffet prices were a little high ($32 pp) but food was good. Rooms smelled a little musty when I first arrived but smell went away quick after A/C ran for a while. Remember, the humidity is very high on the island. Housekeeping only came on 3rd & 4th days of 5 nt. stay and floor swept only once.
