On the most beautiful part of the north-west coast of Cyprus stands Anassa, which means 'Queen' in Homer's Greek. And regal indeed is the layout of this harmonious complex of buildings, gardens and swimming pools, based on the plan of a traditional Greek village and laid out beside a boundless beach. The terracotta roofs and fine wrought-iron balconies give the white buildings their particular atmosphere. Whichever room is yours, it will have a private terrace facing the sea, and an interior bright with mosaics based on traditional Greek and Roman motifs, and Venetian-style frescoes recounting the island's history. Some suites have a private pool or jacuzzi. The Thalassa Spa, in the style of Roman baths, offers a combination of the beneficial effects of aromatherapy with the healing powers of the sea. There are squash and tennis courts for landlubbers, and scuba diving and power boats for waterborne fun. The four restaurants serve Cypriot and international dishes using fresh fish from the bay and vegetables from the family's own farm. The Akamas Peninsula and the Baths of Aphrodite, plus all the other historic sights and attractions of the island, are just a short drive away.
