Captain Grant's is on the National Register of Historic Places. Built by a ship's Captain it is a great reminder of Colonial America. The home has an enviable location. It is the only lodging between Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun casinos. They are eight miles apart. Mystic Seaport Museum and Mystic Aquarium are but a short distance. Wineries surround us. The closest one is within five minutes. Six acres of groomed lawn with trees and flowers all spring and summer make the Inn the perfect place for a wedding or family reunion. Check out our virtual tour on .captaingrants. The home has been featured on HGTV, A&E Network and the Travel Channel. In 2010 it was voted a best of New England by Yankee Magazine.
We had two couples, two rooms, for a weekend casino trip. This was SO much more interesting and less expensive than staying down the street on-site. Each room had a comfortable 4-post bed, clean bathroom, TV and automatic temperature controlled fireplace. Being a 260+ year-old home, it's rustic open beams and wood floors gave a "step back in time" feel. Hosts Ted and Carol made us feel right at home, and breakfast of baked apple, pancakes, sausage, eggs, coffee/juice was delightful. They also have refreshments available 24/7. This was our first trip, but the four of us already decided we'll definitely become regulars.
No complaints. My only regret is that we didn't notice the diary in every room where the past visitors recorded their paranormal experience. We heard stories at breakfast, where another couple filled us in and showed pictures they'd taken that captured floating orbs. Not that it made any difference to our wonderful time, but evidently the Inn is haunted, so keep that in mind if that sort of thing bothers you.
Ted & Caroll were just delighful. Would go back again. Evergthing was just perfect.
