The anonomous review dated 1-27-10 referring to Apt. B-3 is no longer accurate because this unit has been completely refurbished with new bathroom sinks & faucets, entire unit repainted, all furniture reupholstered, new chandelier & lamps, etc. and is now very comfortable. Exclusive Resorts Mangement keeps this and several other units clean and well serviced at Crystal Cove.
Property maintained ok, condo was not. booking agent not on site, had some one call and a driver picked us up and registered at a neighboring office.
we stayed here last year 2011 and it was very beautiful the location, the room, the View! will stay here every time I visit the island
Avoid this place. Staff is not helpful either. To upgrade to a decent room cost an additional $70. Would have done better getting a decent hotel at a higher price from the start than to go through the pain after you are there.
takes a little to get there from the airport, but worth the escape.
I had high expectations for Crystal Cove, but when we arrived we were sent to Sapphire Beach resort desk to check-in. I did not know I was actually reserving a condo from Sapphire Resort/ Antilles Resort. Anyway, the condo units were supposed to be nice, so I wasn't too concerned. BUT, when we walked into unit B-3, my heart sank. It looked like a roadside special. It is BY FAR, the worst room/condo I have ever stayed in. ( and I've traveled a lot !) We were pretty tired, so I thought things would look better after a good night's sleep. - The mattres was thin, hard and lumpy-- my boyfriend and I were very uncomfortable.-- Did not sleep well. The next morning, we needed Coffee, started the coffe pot-- it stopped working after 1/2 pot !!! So, we decided to shower and go into Red Hook for breakfast-- NO WATER. NO COFFEE, Horible Bed, Creepy Condo ---- Not happy !!! We started talking to some of the other guest staying @ CC. They were very happy-- they invited us in to look at their condo units-- the difference was astonishing !!! Everyone else's units were really, really nice !! I was beginning to feel really ripped -off, I paid ~ the same /the same for this creepy unit that other people were paying for their nicer units. We decided to check-out, we were not staying there. We checked-out that first day & found a different condo/different management @ CC. It was very, very nice. I recommend staying at CC, but FIND YOUR CONDO FROM VRBO.
Just an update on Crystal Cove from my most recent stay (June 2009). The weather was beautiful 85 and sunny, the beach and view, water, wildlife just as fabulous (saw 7 sea turtles! snorkeling off the beach!) , and Crystal Cove looks even better than before with new landscaping, improvements to some outdoor amenities (tennis courts colorcoated, buildings painted, etc.). If you are planning to use the 'amenities' next door at Sapphire Beach Resort (a SEPARATE property), be advised that due to financial problems, the restaurant and bars have been closed and boarded up. The Water Sports Rental facility is open and has everything you need; also, there is a small establishment set up between Buildings A and B that will grill burgers, chicken sandwiches, etc. as well as sell drinks, and there is an informal drink stand set up near the restaurant closer to the beach area.
4 of us stayed in a one-bedroom condo, 2 sharing the murphy beds in the living area(which were surprisingly comfortable!). Crystal Cove was GREAT! Awesome location, near to Redhook for shopping and restaurants and the all important ferry to St John. Great beach out front, not crowded at all, and pretty decent snorkelling, mostly on the right side of the bay. We went to a LOT of beaches on STT, and Sapphire was by the far the best overall beach in our opinion. Our unit had 2 bathrooms, and full kitchen which we used to cook breakfasts and most lunches and dinners in order to save money. The reception ladies were great, even booking an excursion for us once we got there. Crystal Cove is not a party place, it is a place to relax and enjoy the sand and sun. We would definately go back to Crystal Cove again, it was a VERY memorable vacation and well worth the time and money to get there.
Beware, if you book your reservation through 'Antilles Resorts' (which is what Travel agency does), you may not actually end up staying at Crystal Cove. Instead, they will 'upgrade' you to the adjacent (rather run down) Sapphire Beach Resort. The plus is that it's the same general beach area (beautiful) and they have a nicer pool. The minus is that the rooms are in bad shape - ours was quite dirty (despite the strong smell of cleaning fluid), the shower had a bad leak so the bathroom floor was always wet, the screens were torn and falling off their tracks, etc. The only response that the staff had when I complained that our reservation at Crystal Cove wasn't being honored: 'this is considered a better property'. Hmm.
These units are condominiums which are privately owned and rented through a management group. The units are quite large and airy. The one bedroom unit we stayed in had a large bedroom in back, and a long hallway with two bathrooms, one for the bedroom, and one for up to 2 additional guests who would use two Murphy beds which are twin beds that drop down from a wall unit (they are actually rather comfortable since they are full-size mattresses). There is a complete kitchen, a large living room and a small separate porch area.\nWhile the units are not super deluxe, the beach area is absolutely breathtaking and great for children and families. There is a beautiful snorkeling area where we saw may tropical fish and loggerhead turtles. Rent a car and go into Red Hook, the nearest town, and buy food at the local small market there. You can cook breakfast and lunch and go out for dinner if you want. Note that dinners will cost, on average, $40 per person and lunch around $15. There is a small convenience store at nearby Sphhire Beach Resort, but save purchases for emergencies (a toothbrush cost $4.99, a can of Chef BoyRDee $4.99!). This place is usually quiet (during Christmas week there were alot of families with small children) and during off-peak seasons, the mostly retired residents are usually in their units and can be seen jogging or walking around. This is not a lively party atmosphere, but a quieter get-away-from-it-all place to stay.
well the rooms did need some remodling i thougt they were nice and big the beach was awesome with sea turtles sting rays and tons of tropica fish they had wild lizards all over they were really cool but they wont mess with you make sure you take alot of money the beach store was very expicenve and downtown was full of street shisters
