Horrific experience with Hertz in Rome Fiumicino. Rented a car that had a tire blown as soon as I started driving it. Called the Hertz location in Fiumicino and no answer. Called multiple times, but no answer. Had to call the US number only to get transferred to Road Side assistance for Canada? Ended up changing the tire myself then drove to my hotel. Kept calling Hertz in Rome (total of 8 times that day) but no answer. Tried calling Naples (no answer), Milano (no answer) and Salerno (answered but told me I wasn't covered because Hertz had franchised their business in Italy?). Suggested I pay for the flat myself and be on my way. In order to salvage my trip, I did just that. Only to find that the tire had prior damage in two places and it was unlikely that it could withstand another "patch" job. Nevertheless, I paid the fee for just that and tried to get ahold of Rome Hertz another 14 times over 4 days. No answer! The car sat parked because the newly patched tire went flat again! Seriously, I can't make this stuff up. Called the US again without help as they simply said I needed to deal directly with Rome Hertz only. I used Twitter to get a road side assistance number for Italy and the towed the car finally, while I had 5 days left on my rental. They refused to take me to Hertz to get a replacement saying I needed to pay a taxi for that (I was 60 miles away from the nearest location). I simply told them to keep the car and I would deal with it upon my return to Rome via another means. When I got to Rome, they had the nerve to charge me for a one way drop off charge in addition to my full contracted rate. NEVER AGAIN WILL I RENT FROM HERTZ/DOLLAR/THRIFY.10.0 Wonderful

Great little car (Fiat Panda) to drive through narrow Tuscan city streets.Cons:
Pick-up was chaos: We had booked the car at Dollar, but no Dollar was to be found at the pick-up in the airport in Rome (we were not aware that Dollar was a Hertz company, nor were we informed). The queue to pick up the car was very long, and it took approx. 1.5 hours before it was our turn. Overall, a very poor car pick-up experience.Hertz

Pros:
Paulette was really helpful when we picked up. The drop off was not as easy in Milan, because it wasn’t clear where to go, so we went into the store to ask but there was only one person working and a lot of people waiting. I waited 30 minutes to talk to someone and was told that I just needed to drive up to the 5th floor of garage to return.2.0 Poor

They were not prepared when we picked up the car and despite arranging an after hours drop off before traveling and again in Rome when picking up the car we discovered there was no place to leave it in Sanremo. So, we had to cancel plans to travel to France yesterday and stay in Sanremo, now Hertz is closed and we still have nowhere to leave the car!2.0 Poor

We were told we had to pick the vans up at Roma Tintoretto. However two days before we were to get the vans, we received emails stating they did not have vans and offered us two small cars for each van even though we only had two drivers. It went from bad to worse when we went to the pick-up location, they only had small cars with manual transmissions. After much discussion, thet finally told us to go to the airport where they had two Ford vans for our use. Our family of ten missed our planned tour, etc. because of this mixed up reservation.Cons:

I waited for an hour to get my car. I showed up at 8:40 and didn't leave with the car until 9:40. The office was so inefficient. It looked like they were doing everything manually. when you have online reservations, why aren't you managing this in advance? Then, when I got the car, it was a mess. It had scratches and dents all over it. Warning lights kept coming on for no wiper fluid and for low tire pressure. After waiting an hour already I was not about to wait longer to get a different one.10.0 Wonderful

The car was a new Fiat 500, with great Tom-Tom GPS. The lady who helped check us in was multi-lingual and very nice. Helped with the addition of the mobile hot-spot and she made sure I was comfortable with everything before we left.Cons:
Just my own lack of knowledge on operating the GPS at first but I eventually figured it out. Very simple and straight forward.Ok Mobility

Worst experience ever. Rented a nice luxury Mercedes for my honeymoon and when we arrived they had a 3 hr line and then didn’t have a car for me. Ended up sticking me in a terrible tiny little fiat with the most uncomfortable and dangerous ride for my pregnant wife. I have never been so upset3.6 Poor

We spent nearly an hour with the agent trying to sell us insurance we kept saying we didn't want. Then I asked about switching to an automatic. When it was apparent that the automatic transmission car was going to cost about 400 euro more, we said no forget it, that we'd go with what we had reserved. But he kept making tweaks and changes to the deal to try to get us to go with the bigger car (seriously, after a translatlantic flight and NO sleep, who wants to spend an hour with someone trying to upsell you?). Finally I said, I just want the car I reserved. And he said, ok, we'll give you the bigger car for the same price. What??? I suspect the car I reserved wasn't even available so the whole thing had been a charade to get us to get the bigger vehicle. And only it wasn't exactly the same price I had reserved it at. We had a heck of a time with a 9-passenger vehicle trying to get through some of the narrow streets and ended up scratching a bumper. Cons:
Car was not ready at 10 o'clock even though we had pick up time at 7am. The staff was still washing it. When we asked them to expedite they handed it to us wet and with poor visibility through the windows. Renault Twingo not in range of Fiat Panda in my opinion.No locations in Rome

Our flight was slightly delayed. I had mentioned I'd be at the terminal shuttle service at 9pm, but obviously wasn't there for that. I walked over to the shuttle area at 9:15pm, and not once did the shuttle return. I called Ecovia incessantly and there was no pick up, despite their closing time stating 10pm. I then ran cartrawler (the agency) and they were rude and unhelpful. After explicitly stating that i'd called Ecovia myself, they attempted to ring. As they didn't pick up (as expected), the woman hung up on me. When I called back, she said it was too bad as I did not make the 9pm reservation. During these calls, I even caught a cab to Ecovia, but they had closed early (cost me me £35 return). I then forfeited the booking and went to Eurocar who were more than helpful - no issues with them. Both cartrawler and Ecovia should be removed from your offerings.4 locations in Rome
