I can't say enough about the staff at this hotel. The front desk was great! They offered us a room upgrade to a suite when we got there, which worked better as there was 4 of us and my son was visiting during the day. The Kitchen staff did a great job with the continental breakfast and were very nice also. We got some great recommendations for restaurants and the shuttle to downtown and the riverwalk was a great convenience. I would definitely stay there again.
This hotel was very clean. However, when in a room that faces the street you will not get any sleep. Ambulances, trains and cars at all hours of the night going by and being LOUD. The beds are sooo hard. The breakfast was wonderful and the free parking and shuttle were great as well.
My family and I just recently stayed here for 4 nights. First, here's all the good: This hotel is VERY nice. It was super clean, the staff was friendly and the breakfast was really good. I was actually surprised when I arrived at how nice it was considering some of the other reviews. While the hotel was in an area that I do not suggest walking around at night, the daytime in the area was just fine. This hotel offers free shuttle service that runs every 30 minutes. This made going downtown easy and free! The breakfast was exceptional. Every morning there were eggs, biscuits, pancakes, an assortment of bagels, fresh fruit, and cinnamon rolls (YUM). Now the bad: The bed was so uncomfortable that I hardly got any sleep and woke in the morning with a sore back. When we first arrived we were put in a room that faced the parking lot. The first night it was so very quiet with little noise. When we got home the evening of the second night our air conditioner was not working and so they moved us across the hall to a room that faced the street. IT WAS AWFUL. The noise was enough to drive a person insane. All through the night trains were blowing their horns (the hotel is next to tracks), sirens were blaring it seemed every hour, cars going by loudly, delivery trucks driving by with loud engines. There was no escape from the noise. So on top of the bed being as hard as a concrete slab, we then had to deal with the noise. Overall: I would stay here again on the condition that I would be able to have a room that was facing the parking lot. The hotel was convienent and VERY clean which is a total plus.
This hotel was nice and clean but if you want a restfull night don't stay there. It is very noisy. Trains, police/ambulances all night, lots of traffic noise and beds are not confortable.
The hotel is clean and pleasant but the elevator was out all weekend and the parking area was small for larger vehicles such as SUV and trucks.
The hotel has its own free shuttle service which makes getting to the riverwalk or convention center very convenient. Much less expensive than staying right on the riverwalk, plus free parking, and a refrigerator, microwave and sink in the room.
First of all, the room was clean. I had trouble with the drain in the tub, but they fixed it without me calling front desk. I loved the nice sized refrigerator about 4.4 cu ft big. Love the microwave and little cabinet that holds my teenagers little snack to satisfy their tummy. We also enjoyed the free breakfast and coffee. Lastly, we have to say thank you for the shuttle service they have. They are awesome!!
We enjoyed our stay at the Holiday Inn. I was looking for a place close enough to see downtown but reasonable enough to afford two rooms. The hotel is East of downtown but they offer regular shuttles to the Riverwalk or the Mercado and several places in between. I even got my bicycle out and rode down to the Alamo. The rooms were right-sized and the staff were friendly. They even made allowances for my daughter's Celiac Disease by making sure to serve something gluten-free each morning that we were there.
The hotel is very clean, the people are exceptionally friendly and helpful. The breakfast is wonderful and bountiful with eggs, muffins, fresh fruit and juices. The air conditioning works well and the pool and hottub are great with sun all day. It is not a giant hotel so safety and rapid access are there. 4 floors.. They even have a shuttle that is free to downtown, though I walked the approximately 5 blocks to the convention center and riverwalk. The neighborhood is not in the High Rent locations of the major hotel district, but Ruth Chriss Steakhouse, Denny's and all the riverwalk restaurants are very close as well as Maciy's and the major mall. This is a very clean and friendly hotel that is very underrated . It has FREE internet in the room and lobby and for a family or person on a budget this is the best bargain in town. I found nothing to complain about and many things to praise about this hote. I am a physician and have stayed in many high end hotels, but was a late sign-up for a convention there and cannot praise the hotel enough.
Clean, close proximity to Alamodome and River Walk, free parking, friendly front desk personnel
Our stay was for two nights, April 26-April 28, 2009. My daughter, son-in-law and their child of 18 months stayed in a suite and I had a separate room. We chose the Holiday Rivercenter based on its great reviews and were made fully aware that it was not on the River Walk but conveniently located. We made good use of the shuttle and had no problems whatsover. The staff was wonderful. We also appreciated the free parking! We became acquainted with many of the other guests during our brief stay and they also were satisfied. I did see a review referring to the area as ''the 'hood'' but, although there was a boarded up house, it looks more like the area is being prepared for development. At any rate, we felt perfectly safe and were out enjoying the beautiful city of San Antonio and its attractions as opposed to fretting about the neighborhood. It was very quiet and actually had an interesting history per our shuttle driver! Hopefully we will be able to return soon and we shall certainly be staying at the Holiday Express Suites Rivercenter.
Paid $* for one night and was surprised when i saw the hotel. They make it seem like it is on the riverwalk and its not! The pictures are not even to this rivercenter hotel. This is a 4 story hotel with a small pool. They do have shuttle and was told they shuttle and pick you up every 30 mins. Well i waited 20 min to get dropped off at the riverwalk and waited 45 min to get picked up and taken back to hotel. The location of the hotel is the HOOD! There are homes nearby with broken windows, beat up cars -just a bad part of town! The room was nice but way overpriced for its location. Would not stay here again............... i would have paid the additional $* to be on the riverwalk if i knew where this hotel was located and the inconvenience of waiting for the shuttle!
A/c vents is my suite blew directly onto bedding area and thermostat. This caused a cold head and constant cycling on and off of A/C unit.Like all other Holiday Inn Express the breakfast was poor. They have a good shuttle to Riverwalk area.
I was really disappointed with this hotel. It isn't really within walking distance of the Riverwalk, however the shuttle service was good. The suites are small. Housekeeping was terrible. We had to go to the front desk to get clean towels every night we were there. We also had to request tissues and coffee when we ran out. They weren't automatically replenished. It was very noisy. Walls seemed paper thin. One evening front desk called to say someone had complained about the noise we were making. All we were doing was getting ready for bed! I don't recommend this hotel.
We booked this hotel based on the fact that it was supposed to be within a block of the Riverwalk. It was five blocks away. The hotel was located next to a set of train tracks, that was used all night and kept us awake. Their idea of a 2-room suite meant a living and bedroom, not two bedrooms, which was the other resaon that we booked the hotel.
