The Swan Hotel has occupied its present site since the 14th century. Nowadays the public rooms have the traditional character of an English country house, enhanced by fine furniture, carved 18th century doorframes and mantelpieces, prints, paintings and photographs connected with the history of Southwold. The refined yet relaxed environment and friendly staff guarantees a most comfortable stay. Many of the 25 bedrooms in the Main Hotel offer a glimpse of the sea, whilst the 17 Lighthouse Rooms are clustered around the old bowling green. There is a liklihood that your room assignment will be in the garden annexe. The elegant Drawing Room is perfect for quiet relaxation the Reading Room and Southwold Room are also ideal for private functions. The menu in the Dining Room, created from local produce and organic ingredients, offers dishes ranging from simple, delicious fare through the English classics to the chef s personal specialities. An exciting selection of Adnams wines from all over the world is offered.
the service was very good , and the food was very good too.
not one , sorry .
I had last been to this hotel as a child nearly 40 years ago - I loved it then, and I loved it again on this visit. I'll certainly return sooner next time! Comfortable, quintessentially English and Southwold is a gem.
The smell! The cleaning team use an incredibly powerful, carbolic type, cleaning material which leaves a very pervasive smell (redolent of boarding schools) which permeated our room and the public corriders. Please, please change it - it was the only minus of our wonderful stay.
its central location and could take your dog
A lovely, friendly hotel situated in the centre of Southwold.
It would have been nice to have paid for half-board accommodation because it worked out quite expensive to have dinner at hotel each night. Although a very nice menu, it was unfortunate it did not change each night.
I thought the food was much better this time and they had refurbished the hotel.
Excellent breakfast and helpful staff
Had to pay for water to drink in room although tea and coffee provided.
walked ate relaxed
too noisy you could hear everyone walking around, above you , down the corridor etc.. anmd there were some very early risers! Room also very hot despite window open - although that looked out onto a fire escape and i felt a little hessitant to leave it open all night - Room 3
Would have preferred a room in the hotel but the garden annex was perfectly fine
the food, the olde world charm, the peaceful nature
Our room was very pleasant with a view to the sea over rooftops, only drawback was the air conditioning unit near our room which was a background hum late into the night especially with the window open. Did manage to sleep though.
The staff were very friendly polite and helpful, the service in the restaurant was very efficient, the room was very good, one very good point was that there was a socket by the mirror for hairdryer, in my experiance that is not usually so. All in all very good
