Essentially, the hotel consists of condominums - some with kitchens and others with full kitchens. Everything was upgraded (granite, stainless steel, etc. fully equiped) with private balconies. The place was quiet with a private pool and a short walk to the nearest beach. The cons were that it was far from the other things to do, only 3-4 restaurants about 3-4 blocks away and not on a bus route (a car or taxi was required to get around). Also, the first bldg. didn't have an elevator. It seems like the best place to be if you just want to relax and avoid the crowds. The staff was very courteous and helpful; daily housekeeping was included. All things considered, I would stay there again with plans to rent a car for all or part of the trip.
This condo (we had a studio) was beautiful! Clean and bright. As with much of Saint Maarten, it is on a hillside. If you want to walk any place you should be aware that it will not be for the faint of heart. Roads are narrow, winding and straight up and down. There is no lobby, so if you need to go down to reception area, you must walk down several flights of stairs... No elevator in first building. We were in second building and found a parking lot right on our level... important to know if you have someone who can't climb or walk. You need to go through/around the Westin to get to beach... Breakfast, lunch and dinner available at Westin. Adequate, but so much more to do and EAT in Simpson Bay area... It was nice to retreat to our condo away from it all at the end of the day. 25 minutes to Simpson Bay airport with good traffic...
Attentive staff, breathtaking views, romantic hideaway. Best hotel we have experienced on the island. You are missing out if you choose other lodging. You will need a car to enjoy all the island has to offer.
Customer service was excellent. View from balcony was fantastic. Rooms were very comfortable and clean. The only problem was the hike to/from the beach. Could drive down, but was just as fast to walk if you are in shape! We would definitely stay here again.
The only thing that would make this a better place to stay would be if they served breakfast each morning. We enjoyed the solitude of having our own space and sitting on the porch each evening watching the sky. We were on the sunrise side so sunsets were just in the distance, but the sky was beautiful. The staff was very friendly and the rooms were cleaned up early each morning. We felt very secure and loved the condo and the island. Would recommend this for a family especially as the freedom of not having to answer to hotel staff is always great.
I stayed September 6 2010-10th. I must say I have not been to St. Maarten in many years. The last time I went was back in the late 90s. Things have really picked up quite a bit and for the better. My stay was excellent at the PHC. I was on the 5th floor of the condo and the view was excellent. It was nice to wake up and see the view of Dawn Beach and in the horizen St. Barths. My room was top notch w/ all Kitchen Aid appliances. I was very inpress the weather was perfect. From my room it overlooked The Westin. I ate at the Big Fish and Bugsby excellent food and a nice atmosphere. I am glad I went back I will be back next year and this time will visit Anguilla again.
This was my 1st time going back to St. Maarten since the late 90s. I must say a lot has change meaning for the good.. The Island is still very beautiful. My stay at the Princess Heights was fantastic. I stayed on the 5th floor with a beautiful view of St. Barths and Dawn Beach. It was a sight to see the fog early in the morining overlooking St. Barths. It was so peaceful and serene. I had an excellent driver to take me around the island. You definitely need a car to get around but if you can find a driver associated with the hotel or condo where you are staying then do so. Some of the streets are very narrow and a few crazy drivers so I recommend if you go solo like me have a personal driver. The condo is secluded in mountain overlooking beautiful homes . I must say though it has been many years it was a perfect say. Places to eat go to Big Fish and Bugsby located down the hill excellent food and customer service.
The 1 bedroom suite is incredible. It has a huge living room and bedroom. The kitchen has all full sized appliances with cookware and dinnerware included if you are so inclined. We were on the third floor and had a spectacular view of the bay/ocean. I would recommend staying on the third through sixth floors to capture these views. The staff will escort you to your room and check you in there. They had complimentary water, sodas, and beer waiting in the fridge. When they found out it was our wedding anniversary, they sent a bottle of champagne to our room. There is internet access in the rooms via ethernet, no wireless. There is a nice pool on the property which is rarely used. Most guests walk accross the street to the Westen Resort to use their infinity pool and be on the beach. As a Princess Heights guest, you may use the Westen Resort's pool and beach areas at no charge. The staff is eager to help and offer advice on what to do while on the island if needed. We rented a car so we could explore the island. There are a lot of steep hills around so get a car with a 6-cylinder engine. We watched the lesser powered cars struggle up some of the hills. You drive on the right side of the road, but their driving rules are more 'suggestions', I found. All the restaurants at the Westen were great. Full dinner for 2 was around 100.00. Near Dawn Beach you have Captain Oliver's which has good seafood and burgers. It's a cool place to hang out too. Big Fish has horrible service, and the food was only fair. We will return to the Princess Heights. It has everything you could want.
I cannot say enough wonderful things about this place! I would highly reccomend this hotel to anyone who wants a beautiful, serene property with great views and great service.
Rooms are very well appointed with absolutely everything you need. The views of the water and St. Barts from the balcony are just beautiful. They provide complimentary drinks upon check-in. We were celebrating our birthday and they had a bottle of complimentary wine in our room upon check-in. The place is quiet and away from all the touristy areas on St. Maarten. Housekeeping was so friendly and polite and did an excellent job cleaning our unit daily. I would not hesitate to return to stay at this place again and would recommend it to anyone going to St. Maarten that wants a relaxing, peaceful vacation. However, a rental car is a must (we rented one for $180/week with insurance.) If you like to swim in an uncrowded pool-this is the place to stay; because we had the pool all to ourselves most of the time. They are in the process of completing landscaping and a fountain on the property; but, the construction is barely noticeable.
