Pros:Everything.
Cons:There was nothing not to like.

Cons:Me and several other families had reservations in hand only to be sent away due to there bein ZERO cars in all of San Jose...every office, every company. Please tell me how this is possible. I watched client after client be turned away...one family had a sick child. there must have been at least 10 clients in Thrifty, all waiting for their turn to be turned away. It was a nightmare and you should all be very very ashamed of yourselves. families. children. stuck in Alajuela of all places!!! I for one will never again book with Thrifty and I am proceeding to blow up every website and blog about my horrible experience.

Cons:Our reservation was for 6 pm pick up. We even called that morning to confirm and asked if we could pick up earlier. They said if we arrive before the scheduled time we could wait for 2 hours and it's best to keep the reservation in the computer. We arrived at 6 to find the gates closed. Rental agency closed at 5:30. The guard said there was nothing he could do and to come back tomorrow. there we were stuck in a foreign country. Thanks to our uber driver he found a different rental company but we ended up paying more than double. What kind of company would allow a 6 pm reservation at a location that closes at 5:30?!?!. TERRIBLE!

Pros:Car was nice, good on gas.
Cons:If someone is renting from Costa Rica, you should tell them about the mandatory insurance purchase. My rental went from $63 to ~$400, by far my biggest expense this trip.
A
6.0 Okay
Pros:The car was comfortable and easy to drive. They had an efficient check in system. Drop off was immediate upon return of the car.
Cons:Know that Costa Rica car rentals require purchase of insurance which was an additional $42 a day. This was an unexpected charge and was not budgeted for. Also, we had a flat tire issue that we did not cause, and I know the agency would have no idea of our trustworthiness, but we got no help or guidance with this issue. Our hotel helped us find a tire two hours away where we drove to with the spare tire on.

8.4 Very good
Pros:The car was in great condition, got us to where we needed to go, including mountain roads, dirt/rock roads. Staff was pleasant.
Cons:We did not expect to pay $300 extra for the required insurance. We were told by several people who have used Thrifty that if you use a major credit card, the insurance is covered by your card. But in Costa Rica, it doesn't matter who you are or what card you have, you are required to pay for the full coverage insurance.
A
9.2 Wonderful
Pros:The staff was very friendly, upfront about all charges and policies, didn't try to add any 'extras' at the end of the rental.
R
3.6 Poor
Pros:Forced to drop supplemental insurance and stated it was mandatory to purchase their insurance. Plus $1000 hold on credit card. Therefore the $23 a day rental ended up nearly $500 for a week.
E
4.8 Mediocre
Pros:Drop off was easy
Cons:A quote of $37 but get there and with taxes and mandated insurance $200!!!! Once your there you have no option to pay, but no where in the booking process was this disclosed. We planned out trip around having a car, so we couldn't just walk out. Of we would have know this we would have altered our plans. Totally not what we expected.
