The style of this Chartehouse is more that of a noble Tuscan residence than of an hotel; all the requisites are here: the frescoed halls; the ancient terracotta vases, the vaulted ceilings, the family furniture, the large fire place. In fact the Certosa di Maggiano was built to be a beautiful home, on a hill opposite Siena in a splendid Charterhouse dating back to 1314, built on the orders of Cardinal Petroni. The few comfortable and peaceful rooms look out onto the central courtyard or onto the surrounding countryside. The Tuscan specialities created by the chef can be enjoyed, according to the season, in the special winter restaurant decorated by Renzo Mongiardino, around the fire place of a former kitchen, in the main cloister under the high, elegant vaults or by the poolside.
