Pros:

The staff was friendly and helpful and the drop off was very easy. All good.

Cons:

‘Car play’ kept dropping off otherwise car was just fine. I rented a Nisan Rogue AWD. Drove over 2100 miles in Alaska. No problems.

There was no car. I got a confirmation number and the Enterprise people called the day before our trip and said the confirmation number and reservation was computer generated, not human. VERY upsetting since we were to spend ten days driving around Alaska. I will NEVER use Kayak again. Enterprise said they knew NOTHING of a reservation.

My plane was delayed until after they close so I called prior to let them know that I would come in the next day for the reserved car. When we showed up in a snow storm, they did not have a vehicle for us to use as we had requested an SUV. The agent was unable to assist me and needed to confirm with the manager before “figuring something out for us”. I waited over 20 minutes and finally gave up and left to go rent from another company.

Pros:

A great rental in every way, save one. (Mandated insurance, see below)

Cons:

If you cannot prove personal collision coverage, they mandated at least their minimal insurance package. Did not see anything about this when making the reservation. In looking at the fine print, this insurance provides a MAX of $1000 coverage for a cost of $30/day. It just seemed excessive in my opinion.

When I book something through Kayak, I assume that the “total” price is what I am going to pay—I expected to pay $300-something with taxes included but left Thrifty paying $404.

Standard SUV

We made a reservation with Dollar in Anchorage, AK expecting to be able to get to the rental location from the airport. The airport had a dollar rental car desk but was not where our reservation was. There was no shuttle to the other location and we were told the other location did not open until 8 a.m. our flight had been changed by the airline to leave at 8 a.m. this meaning we had to be at the airport by 6 a.m. Leaving no option but to use the airport location. They would not match the price we were quoted. The rental ended up costing us $800 MORE than we expected. Will not be using Dollar again.

Could’ve been made clearer that the location isn’t at the airport. This was kind of a pain to deal with. It’s about a 10 mins drive outside the airport.

Nothing stood out as being noticeably good. They were short staffed which had the one front desk worker a little stressed. He wasn't the friendliest, but then again neither am I when I'm stressed. Be sure to read the fine print before booking. There's a $500 mandatory hold if you use a debit card to pay. Also, there's a charge per day for additional drivers. If you're from out of state, they require to see your plane tickets confirming your return flight. And if you do not take their insurance option, you have to show them proof of your own personal car insurance and it has to be full coverage. Also, don't be like me and not check to see if this location is at the airport before booking. This location is not the one at the airport and it'll be about a $15 cab/uber ride to get there.

It took longer than expected to actually get the rental car. When I went out to inspect it before leaving, it was not clean. It made it difficult to mark the damages already done because it was dirty. The inside was vacuumed.

Compact SUV

The car I had had a very low throttle and stalled out a couple times when we were at a stop light. Also the back seat door on the passenger side wouldn’t open from the inside, so it was a bit of a pain.
