Supplier choice

The pickup location was moved from downtown to near the airport, but we were not notified, causing us additional time and expense. They did allow us to not fill the gas tank, a savings of perhaps $30… The vehicle was unexpectedly a small pickup truck with a very uncomfortable rear seat. The windshield came with a quarter size starburst shaped crack, which was noticed by us, but not by Avis. Staff was friendly and professional.

Standard SUV

We made a reservation with Dollar in Anchorage, AK expecting to be able to get to the rental location from the airport. The airport had a dollar rental car desk but was not where our reservation was. There was no shuttle to the other location and we were told the other location did not open until 8 a.m. our flight had been changed by the airline to leave at 8 a.m. this meaning we had to be at the airport by 6 a.m. Leaving no option but to use the airport location. They would not match the price we were quoted. The rental ended up costing us $800 MORE than we expected. Will not be using Dollar again.

Could’ve been made clearer that the location isn’t at the airport. This was kind of a pain to deal with. It’s about a 10 mins drive outside the airport.

Pros:

Nothing stood out as being noticeably good. They were short staffed which had the one front desk worker a little stressed. He wasn't the friendliest, but then again neither am I when I'm stressed. Be sure to read the fine print before booking. There's a $500 mandatory hold if you use a debit card to pay. Also, there's a charge per day for additional drivers. If you're from out of state, they require to see your plane tickets confirming your return flight. And if you do not take their insurance option, you have to show them proof of your own personal car insurance and it has to be full coverage. Also, don't be like me and not check to see if this location is at the airport before booking. This location is not the one at the airport and it'll be about a $15 cab/uber ride to get there.
