KAYAK Advertiser Guidelines

These guidelines are supplementary to the Insertion Order and accompanying Terms and Conditions signed by KAYAK and Advertisers. In addition Advertisers must adhere to the KAYAK Network Advertising Policies.

General Guidelines

1 . These Guidelines apply to Advertiser content on all KAYAK brands and affiliates across all markets and platforms, including but not limited to KAYAK, OpenTable, Cheapflights, momondo, HotelsCombined, SWOODOO, checkfelix, mundi, Travelsearch, Roomsearch and reference to “KAYAK” includes all brands and affiliates.

2. It is the Advertiser’s responsibility to make sure they are complying with the local rules, laws, and legislation in each market. These guidelines are only applicable in respect of  content provided for display to KAYAK. They do not pretend to be exhaustive and are in addition to any legal requirement, which always has precedence.

3. Advertisers are expected to follow good business practice by being transparent and fair to the users and business partners as well as competitors.

Advertiser website (inc. Mobile applications)

4. Website is fully operational with ability to book online tickets (vs form fill/call only), with the exception of specific click-to-call advertisers

5. Click-to-call advertisers

  1. No premium rate phone lines
  2. Unique trackable phone number
  3. 24-7 call center

6. Website is professionally designed with working links, privacy policy, terms and no spelling errors

7.  Website should be fully translated in the local language and support local currency and payment methods

8. All placements shall link directly into search results where relevant. Mobile placements shall not redirect users to app stores or app-install prompts

Accreditation

9. Advertiser shall be fully accredited as required:

  • IATA accreditation for all travel agents and airlines
  • US & CA: Flight OTAs, must have an Airlines Reporting Corporation (ARC) accreditation
  • UK: ATOL for providers of Package holidays and/or ABTA license where applicable
  • Customer Service Guidelines

    10. Adequate customer service support shall be offered to the users, including, but limited to, local phone number(s) with customer service in the local language

    11. Phone lines should be open at least during reasonable hours of service (e.g. 9am – 5pm, local time)

    12. All emails sent by a user should receive a response from the Customer Service Representative within two working days

    13. Whenever KAYAK escalates a user complaint to the Advertiser, Advertiser should reply to KAYAK within one working day explaining the situation and outlining a solution whenever applicable

    14. If an Advertiser consistently receives user feedback of bad practice, then KAYAK reserves the right to remove the Advertiser’s content indefinitely

    15. Online customer reviews will be considered

    Pricing and Accuracy (for ad placements with live pricing)

    16. Advertisers are expected to deliver to KAYAK accurate content to ensure prices displayed on KAYAK are the same as those charged to the user when completing the booking on the Advertiser’s site

    17. KAYAK’s accuracy measurements should be enabled by the Advertiser so we can share this data to improve pricing quality

    18. An Advertiser with price accuracy issues risks being disabled by KAYAK until the Advertiser can prove the quality of its content has improved

    Cheapflights Panel Advertisers and other CMP2 Advertisers

    19. For CMP2 placements – upon click-through from these placements, advertisers must show a search result relevant to the user’s search parameters as the primary experience in focus. Partners may still have compare-to or other advertisements on their site, so long as it does not impede the search results (i.e. overlays, pop-ups, large header units should not be in focus upon click-through). Advertisers violating this policy will have their placements paused until resolved.

    Market Specific Requirements

    EMEA

    20. Companies registered outside of the European Union must adhere to European Union regulations on sale of flight, hotel, car hire, cruise or train tickets

    LATAM

    21. Company understands that the minimum investment per country inside the LATAM territory is $3K USD per month, with a minimum contract of $10K and risks termination if these minimums are not met

    NORAM

    22. Better Business Bureau or similar agency grade B or better

    23. Company understands overall account must be billing $10k monthly minimum and $30k contract minimum for US and risks termination if these minimums are not met

    Penalty Action

    KAYAK, at its sole discretion, has the right to pause the Advertiser any time for breaching the guidelines above. In case of pausing, the Advertiser’s content will be only turned back on when KAYAK is satisfied, in its sole discretion, that the problem has been resolved.
