Spirit Airlines shut down on May 2, 2026, canceling all flights. That means no rebookings, no airport customer service and no future flights.

If you had a Spirit Airlines booking, here’s what to do to get home quickly or make alternate arrangements for future travel plans.

What to do if you booked a Spirit Airlines flight.

As of May 4, Spirit has stated that it has refunded almost all bookings, including add-ons like baggage and WiFi. If you haven’t received yours yet, give it a few days – transfers might take some time.

What happens if I booked with points or a voucher?

If you booked with points, vouchers, or credits, things are less clear. These are handled through the airline’s bankruptcy process, and recovery isn’t guaranteed.

If you have unused points or vouchers, unfortunately, these won’t be refunded.

What if I booked through KAYAK?

KAYAK is a metasearch engine and not a seller, we don’t handle your booking and won’t have access to your booking details. Check who your ticket was purchased through (check your KAYAK account or card statement) and reach out to them directly.

Check if airlines are offering rescue fares.

Other airlines are not required to honor Spirit tickets. That means you’ll need to book a replacement flight yourself. To lend a helping hand, some airlines are offering discounted “rescue fares” for stranded Spirit passengers. These are typically:

  • Limited-time offers
  • Route-specific

Airlines offering these fares include United, JetBlue and Frontier. Note these fares should be booked directly with the airline and you must have proof of a Spirit booking to be eligible.

Find more flight options on KAYAK.

If none of the rescue fares work for your trip, KAYAK can help you quickly compare options across airlines, filter by price or timing, and find the best alternative.

Additional terms and conditions may apply to airline offers above and customers should contact airlines directly for details.
