November 5th is on the horizon – and so are some Americans’ travel plans. Our data shows flight searches for the week of 11/3 – 11/9 equal those of Labor Day Weekend (one of the year’s busiest travel periods), with most election week travelers going abroad.
Whether you’re studying abroad, handling business or enjoying a cheap trip (thanks to shoulder season), being far from the polls doesn’t mean you can’t have your say. Absentee and early ballots are available this year: here’s a state-by-state breakdown of what you need to know.
Note: certain states require a copy of a government-issued ID and/or a witness signature. Check your state’s guidelines to confirm.

Methodology: For the first data point, KAYAK considered travel for Labor Day (August 29 – September 4, 2024) for searches 2 months out from travel (April 30 – June 29, 2024) compared to travel for election week (November 2 – 8, 2024) for searches 2 months out from travel (July 3 – September 2, 2024). For the second and third data points, KAYAK considered flight searches between March 1 – August 27, 2024 for travel between November 3 – 9, 2024 (election week). The search share of travelers searching during election week were considered to find the percentage of those looking for international trips. For state by state data, states were ranked by those with the most searches for the search and election week travel dates indicated.
