Nestled in the heart of Miami Beach is the charming Collins Park. Centrally located off 21st street on the cusp of South Beach and Mid-Beach yet far from the hustle of Ocean Drive, the tree-lined streets of this hip micro-neighborhood are perfect for strolling.

And what’s more – it’s our home base. KAYAK Miami Beach is tucked right by the Collins Canal and draws much of its inspiration from our local community. While the hotel is filled with tech-forward amenities and a relaxing pool deck, you’ll want to make time to explore beyond this home-away-from-home. Whether you borrow a bike from the hotel or walk, here’s your guide to Collins Park featuring arts, culture, dining, and fun in the sun—all a 15-minute or less walk from KAYAK Miami Beach.

Arts & Culture

Art Deco Historic District

Miami boasts the largest concentration of Art Deco-style buildings in the world, many along Ocean Drive. Admire the architecture on your own or walk/ride a bit further to take a tour by the Miami Design Preservation League. The League hosts 90-minute walking tours of the Miami Design District where you can admire the pastel-hued buildings characterized by glass blocks, curved edges, neon lighting, and ziggurat rooflines. Tours are offered Fridays through Mondays (except holidays) and participants must wear masks. Each participant receives a sanitized audio device and headphones, so they can maintain social distance and still hear the tour guide.

The Bass Museum

The Bass Museum presents temporary exhibitions of international contemporary art as well as pieces from its permanent art collection that spans antiquity to Renaissance to Baroque. The Bass Museum includes treasures from the private collection of businessman John Bass like The Coronation of the Virgin, an altarpiece by Sandro Botticelli and Domenico Ghirlandaio, the only known collaboration of the two artists. During the pandemic, the museum has adjusted hours and is open Wednesday to Sunday 12 p.m. – 5 p.m. It’s also instituted temperature checks, reduced occupancy to 10% (25 visitors at a time), and requires museum-goers 2-years-old and older to wear a mask. The museum offers a free, reusable fabric face mask designed by artist Carlos Amorales to each visitor with the purchase of admission.

The Fillmore Miami Beach at the Jackie Gleason Theater

The legendary performance venue The Fillmore Miami Beach at the Jackie Gleason Theater is just minutes from the hotel. The famed stage where Jackie Gleason once hosted his eponymous show now hosts touring Broadway shows, concerts, and more. During the pandemic, the theater has reduced occupancy and requires concert-goers to wear a mask and only bring a clear bag or small clutch bag.

Miami City Ballet

Directly across the street from KAYAK Miami beach, the Miami City Ballet is led by Artistic Director Lourdes Lopez. It has a repertory of 100-plus ballets, including 12 world premieres and offers performances throughout the year in Miami and around the world. While the current season was cancelled due to the pandemic, the ballet has been hosting pop-up events around the city.

SoundScape Park

Film buffs can grab a blanket and head to the manicured lawns of SoundScape Park to watch movies on a 7,000-square-foot projection wall under the stars. Movies are free and are shown Wednesday evenings at 8 p.m. November through May. Physical distancing guidelines are enforced and masks must be worn by moviegoers.

Miami Beach

Nearly every day can be a beach day. Just three blocks from KAYAK Miami Beach, the golden sand and turquoise waters of Mid-Beach are much quieter than South Beach, the two-mile stretch beginning at South Pointe Park and meandering north. No matter where you go for a day of fun in the sun, you’re guaranteed picture postcard views of the Atlantic Ocean.

Collins Park

Adjacent to the Bass Museum, Collins Park is a bucolic respite populated with Baobab and palm trees that is perfect for a picnic. Time your visit to coincide with the Sunday farmers market.

greenmonkey Yoga

From beginner to advanced yoga, greenmonkey yoga has you covered. Whether you opt for intimate in-person sessions at the Miami Beach studio or take classes on-demand in your room, it’s easy to indulge in self-care.

Miami Beach Botanical Gardens

Saunter through a tropical oasis in the middle of Miami Beach at the three-acre Miami Beach Botanical Gardens located on the historic Collins Canal.

Eat

Layla

Located inside our hotel, Layla is a rooftop bar and restaurant inspired by the Persian love story of Layla & Majnun. Enjoy dinner on the terrace overlooking the Collins Canal before enjoying drinks in a secret rooftop courtyard. Layla’s modern Middle Eastern menu opens with za’atar manousheh and mezze – and pairs perfectly with a complimentary cocktail.

La Sandwicherie

No matter when hunger strikes, local favorite La Sandwicherie serves hearty, French-style sandwiches on crisp baguettes or soft croissants until 5 a.m.

Drink

Broken Shaker

Tucked in the backyard of the Freehand hostel is Broken Shaker, one of Miami’s best bars creating cocktails made with elixirs, syrups, and infusions prepared from globetrotting garden herbs and spices.

Sweet Liberty

Don’t miss a stop at Sweet Liberty for creative American fare that pairs perfectly with the equally impressive cocktails.

The ScapeGoat

For shaken and stirred cocktails in serene surroundings, head to The ScapeGoat which handcrafts classics like negronis, old fashioneds, and more.

Mac’s Club Deuce

No trip to Miami is complete without a stop at Miami’s oldest bar, Mac’s Club Deuce. The retro dive bar is legendary for its two-for-one happy hour daily from 8 a.m. (yep, it’s Miami) until 7 p.m.
