Why does summer have to end after Labor Day? It’s 2020, time is irrelevant. So put on your best white pants and turn fall into summer 2.0. From backyard camping to hitting the open road, people are embracing all types of travel, and there’s no reason not to get out there and enjoy the sunshine (safely, of course).

According to KAYAK data, travelers are getting creative with their fall travel plans. In fact, alternative accommodations (think cabins, cottages and RVs) account for 44% of accommodation clicks for stays this September.

So this fall, why not savor summer a bit longer? With social distancing a top priority, we’re featuring rentals in destinations across the country with appealing vacancy rates in September – which means more options and fewer crowds – so you can make the most of this extended season.

Whatever you’re in the mood for – a mountain villa in Breckenridge, Colorado, a beach house in Folly Beach, South Carolina, a luxe cabin in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, a waterfront condo in Ocean City, Maryland, a private pool in Scottsdale, Arizona, or a cozy cottage in the Hamptons, New York – we have you covered.

To get you started, we’ve highlighted a few properties in each city, but there are plenty more where those came from. Search all available properties for your travel dates to find the one that’s just right for you.

Since travel looks a little (OK, a lot) different this year, it’s also important to stay informed. Which is why we’ve compiled a hub of resources to make planning travel during COVID-19 a little bit easier – from a guide to travel provider health and safety policies to tips on planning travel (including finding flexible options should you need to cancel).

So, get out there. The weather is still nice and time is a construct. Summer 2.0 is just beginning.

Reboot your summer

Methodology: KAYAK alternative accommodations data is based on US non-hotel accommodation clicks between 7/1/20 – 8/25/20, for travel between 9/1/20 – 9/30/20, comparing the percentage of non-hotel accommodations to last year. Destinations featured are based on Vrbo locations with lower occupancy rates for September 2020.
