Wherever you choose to travel, one thing’s for certain, we can help make sure you plan it the best way possible.
Check out our state-by-state breakdown below.
What we learned:
- San Juan is the clear winner. A whopping 30 of the 50 states (31 if you count Washington, DC) show a dramatic increase in 2019 Spring Break searches to San Juan, Puerto Rico. (And we’re talking even more dramatic than MTV Spring Break in the early 00s.) With a 115% search increase compared to 2018, it’s clear San Juan is making a comeback. The drop in tourism post-Maria is on the rebound. Plus, with plenty of flight routes (including the addition of daily nonstop flights on Spirit Airlines from Florida and Maryland), San Juan is an accessible option for those looking for some spring sun. Thinking about checking it out for yourself? Our San Juan guide has all the info you need.
- Florida’s still got it. If you’re looking for something a bit closer to home, perennially popular Florida is always a good idea. Orlando is the top trending Florida hot spot for travelers from around the country — with the highest search rate among those in New Hampshire, Mississippi, North Dakota and Wyoming. Also on the list, Tampa is the go-to Spring Break spot for South Dakota, while Fort Lauderdale is trending in Idaho, and Miami tops the list for folks from Nebraska and New Mexico. (Pro tip: If Fort Lauderdale or Miami are on your list, search flights to both — they’re only a 45-minute drive apart and if you were planning on renting a car anyway, you could save some money.)
- Don’t rule out Hawaii. With three Hawaiian hot spots on our Trending Beach Destinations list for 2019, it is surprising that it only tops Spring Break searches in two states — Alaskans are hot for Honolulu, while there’s no place like Maui for Kansans. Worried Hawaii is too pricey of a trip? Don’t be. With more flight routes, local eats and plenty of wallet-friendly activities, a Hawaiian Spring Break doesn’t have to cost you. Check out our tips to exploring Hawaii for less.
- Europe is the spring getaway of choice. If you’re not in the mood for a tropical getaway, not to worry — a European city trip could be the alternative Spring Break you’re looking for. London, Madrid and Rome all topped spring break flight searches in Hawaii, Oregon and Utah respectively. While it can be smart to book a Eurotrip at least 6 months in advance, there are some last-minute deals to be found, especially on low-cost carriers. Hesitant to use a budget airline?
