Location. Need a suite, and this property has the bedroom separated with a door from other living space.
1. tub drain was very slow - kind of gross2. HVAC didn't get humidity out of air; it was cool, but damp; not really comfortable
Rooms are nice, and having a separate bedroom with a second TV is great. Having the kitchen/fridge available is also great.
We got in late at night and realized there is only ONE blanket and ONE sheet for the pull out sofa bed. Next time check that first and get an extra item from the desk.
The staff was helpful and friendly
not very clean! for --- per night, it should have been spotless!! It smelled of mildew, the bathroom was very dirty. Should invest in a new shower curtain!!
The suite was very comfortable and we had everything we needed. Beds were very comfortable and hotel very quiet even though it was full.
The pool and hot tub is very small.
It was close to the where I needed to be. It was clean and well maintained.
The room is very well appointed. Staff are very friendly and attentive. I have stayed here three times and have stayed at many hotels across the country. This is one of my favorites.
Hotel was very nice, and clean. We like suites and this was the pefect hotel for our visit. Staff was very friendly.
I would definitely recommend this hotel. We stayed in a suite with 2 separate bedrooms and a central living area 'with a complete kitchen', and it couldn't have been more comfortable, at a very reasonable price. There were a variety of breakfast choices, and the location is very convenient. We have stayed there twice and will do so again.
This was one the worse experiences I have ever had! Staff was very unfriendly and rude. There is a bell to ring to get staff attention but they become angry when you rang the bell for assistance...but they are never at the desk. I overheard the front desk staff and housekeeping making racial jokes and making fun of African Americans. This is not acceptable in the hospitality industry. My room smelled like cigarette smoke and was extremely dirty. The toilet was not clean and the bed blanket was soiled. There were dirty dishes in the dishwasher. The manager was a complete jerk and was not interested in solving problems only ''defending'' his staff (as he put it) when I complained. You will have a better experience sleeping on a sidewalk.
I had a wonderful stay here! The room was very cleand and very nice. I was very excited that they had a dvd player, we watched movies all night! Also it was extremely nice to have a kitchen right there and also Old Chicago. The pool room was very nice and clean. My entire stay was better than expected. It was great. I definately recommend this to anyone that needs a GREAT place to stay.
Great place to stay. Staff was very helpful. Only one BIG complaint, the hot tub had so much chlorine, you could smell it the minute you opened the pool door and when you sat in the hot tub, your eyes burned. You could not be in there for more than a minute or two. Staff said that the levels were correct, but something was definately wrong. I will give it another try shortly.
We had our daughters 13th birthday party here. There were many problems. Electrical outlets in rooms not working. Smoke alarm in room went off in middle of the night. All eight children contracted a bacterial skin infection called Folliculitis from the jacuzzi which apparently wasn't being maintained properly. The hotel manager basically dismissed my concerns and told me he would get back to me in two days. This was a horrible experience and I would not recommend it to anyone!
This was my 2nd stay at the Grandstay hotel, and I think it is the best hotel in Ames. All the rooms are suites with full size fridge, microwave, stove, dishwasher, stove, and sink. The bedroom is separate from the living area, so it feels like home. The tvs are flat screen and have a dvd player. There is a pool, whirlpool, and exercise room. The staff is very friendly and professional, the hotel and rooms are spotless and clean, and they do have free breakfast which is also good. I wouldn't change anything about this hotel, it is great!
My daughter and I came to Ames for her to audition for the ISU Dance Team. We got to town late, and found that we could not sleep on the worn out beds at the hotel we had reserved, never mind how dirty and outdated the room was. My daughter has neck problems, and she would not do well dancing 8 hours at the audition if she had pain from sleeping on that bed. It was 11 PM, and she had to be up by 6AM. We were panicking...we called Grandstay...the staff gave us directions. We won the lottery that night finding this hotel. And...our daughter made the Team!
