The Batchelor area located just one hour south of Darwin is steeped in history from early Chinese market gardens, used as a base during the Second World War, and pastoral and mining industries. Students are adults of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island descent from throughout Australia. Their culture, art and craft are on display at the Coomalie Cultural Centre. Hosts Bob and Robin Davis commenced involvement with tourism in the area in 1985. They were pioneers of tourism in what later became Litchfield National Park. They provided the essential accommodation infrastructure to enable the development o Litchfield National Park to commence. In 2000 the purchase of the adjoining Rum Jungle Motor Inn provided the opportunity to join these two businesses into an all-encompassing Batchelor Resort.
