Well located and an absolute bargain for what you get. A fully working kitchen, laundry service, free wifi, indoor lounge with TV, 24 hour access to the hostel and staff who are always happy to help regardless of the hour. There are a few things to be aware of: The walls are a bit thin, so if you like to have an early night, this may not be for you as other guests may wake you when returning from a boozy night. The staff were extremely polite and helpful when I had to contact them and worked closely with me when I was looking for places to go or local experiences that tourists may not know about. In terms of location the hostel isn't too far out. It's located 5 minutes from the main streets if your walking, and 15 minutes from the main square. There is a metro right outside as well, along with several bus stops, so you can get wherever you want to go, very quickly. Maverick can be an absolute steal if you just need somewhere to crash for a few hours without being too far out. That being said, if you are here for a week then this is still a great location. Excellent location, the room we stayed in (double) with shared kitchen and lounge was good value.
The actual building the hostel was situated within was tatty but typical of Budapest.
The staff were very friendly; I was invited to join in with a leaving meal the first night I arrived; one of the staff cooked a meal for us all on another night; They were full of really helpful advice and information about Budapest, food, cafes etc. My room was good value, clean, well-maintained with a TV and ensuite and clean well-maintained kitchen. Great central location, close to the Danube Bridges. 24 hr supermarket a few doors away. The hostel itself is two period apartments up sweeping stairs decorated with ornate metal-worked flowers etc designs. I felt I was in the heart of the city.
