Downtown Burlington sits approximately five miles away; major ski areas are about a forty-five minute drive; and larger cities like Montreal (an hour and a half away) and Boston (three hours away) are within a day's reach. Burlington International Airport offers direct flights to Atlanta, Boston, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Chicago, Detroit, Newark, New York (JFK and LGA), Philadelphia, Plattsburgh, and Washington DC (DCA and IAD). Burlington International Airport finished major renovations a few years ago, and plans are underway to expand the airport again by adding more hubs, adding new carriers to the airport, and adding another floor to the parking garage. Air traffic at Burlington International Airport can be quite busy at times leading to delays because the airport currently has only one runway. The airport does have a high rate for delayed flights, but the airport is vigorously working to change that. Services within the airport itself are somewhat limited, but those facing long layovers can easily take a taxi or public bus to the University Mall, a five-minute drive from the airport. Passengers who do leave the airport will have to pass through security, however. Smokers need to be aware that businesses in Vermont are all non-smoking. Smoking is not allowed inside the airport and in outside public areas. Additionally, smoking is not allowed in any bar or restaurant due to state laws. DirectionsBurlington International Airport is most easily reached from Interstate 89's exit 14E. Traffic come from either the south or north will take exit 14E and head east on Williston Road. Follow Williston Road for nearly a mile and a half turning left onto Airport Drive at the traffic lights that are near Hooters Restaurant. The airport turn-off comes pretty quickly after that so watch for signs. Those from New York City and areas to the south often find it easier to travel north on Route 7. Follow Route 7 into South Burlington and take the left turn-off for the I-189. Take the second exit to the right (about 1 mile) to Kennedy Drive. Follow Kennedy Drive to the fourth set of lights and continue straight through the lights to Airport Drive. Terminal 1Burlington International Airport has the main, two-floor terminal. On the lower level is the check-in, security checkpoints, snack bar, gift shop, and baggage claim. The second level has the waiting rooms, One Flight Up restaurant, and gates. The airport is relatively small and extremely easy to navigate, so passengers should not have a hard time getting from one area to another. Continental Express offers non-stop flights to Boston, Cleveland, Newark, and Plattsburgh. Delta Connection offers non-stop flights to Atlanta and Cincinnati. JetBlue offers non-stop service to New York City's JFK airport. Northwest Airlink travels directly to Detroit. United serves non-stop flights to Chicago and Washington D.C. Dulles.
