The location and the actual hotel layout is nice.
The place just seems to be in decline and barely hanging on. The facilities are only marginally operated, and staffed. The breakfast food was scarey and I did not try the lunch or dinner options, but if breakfast was am indication, I would avoid.Only a place to stay if you can't find anything else. Best bet if this is your price range, forget Cancun and just go down to Playa or Coz, you will spend less and enjoy more.
Staff were helpful, it was relatively clean, and the location was ok but a little too far from all of the Spring Break activities if that's what you're looking for.
How cramped and confusing the rooms are laid out. Room size was good but the architecture/planning wasn't all that great. Fixtures were corroded and there were cracks every where in the 'granite' accents. Cheap price and a good bang for your buck..They have all inclusive but there is only one bar and one restaurant which will get the job done I suppose. Drinks are $5.00 usd without all inclusive which like buying drinks in the states. Probably not worth the all inclusive plan as there are other options available near by for better overall all inclusive prices. I would probably not go back to this hotel, yes hotel, not resort.
EverythingHotel staff was very rude and unaccommodating. I paid extra and booked this hotel for the internet and it never worked. They were unaccommodating and rude and never lifted a finger to try and solve the internet issue. Rooms were dirty with centipedes crawling in the shower. Misc junk leftover from former tenants was not cleaned up in my room and the front desk could care less.
Location is right on the beach at the southern end of the hotel zone. Grounds are well kept, ocean views would satisfy any tropical postcard standards.
Internet is only available in common areas, and it wasn't working during either of my my stays. It is well worth the price. The hotel is not new, but is is well kept up. If you take a room without an ocean view you will suffer. There is no real room service. The inclusive breakfast in wonderful.....so there are ups and downs, but the location is wonderful. A real Cancun experience.
I enjoyed my stay at the Hotel Solymar. I was looking for a place to stay for a layover night and this place did the job. It was a great beach spot for an evening.
