FAQs - booking Abuja flights

  • What is the best way to get from the Abuja Airport to the city center?

The airport recommends asking your accommodation to provide a private transfer from the airport to the address of your final destination, as this is the safest and most reliable option. However, you can also take a taxi, which should take no more than 40min to the city center; there is also public transport available, although it is less frequent. The Abuja Airport is now connected to the city center via a metro service. This is the first light-rail system in West Africa and is brand new. The metro service connects to the Abuja Central Business District and the journey takes about 40min. However, the metro only takes a few trips per day, so you will have to check the departure times when you land in Abuja. The metro service is located just a short distance from the airport and you can buy tickets with a credit card at a point of service machine or use cash at the ticket booth.

  • Can I rent a car from the Abuja Airport?

Yes, there are several car rental companies onsite at the Abuja Airport, including Sixt, Beeshop, Rhezon, and more. Renting a car is a great and safe way to explore the city and its surrounding areas.

  • Are there services for passengers with limited mobility at Abuja Airport?

Yes, as Abuja Airport is fairly modern, the facilities, such as the lounges, restrooms, cafes, and public transport options, are accessible to passengers with limited mobility. However, if you require extra assistance, contact your airline in advance.

  • Can I exchange money at the Abuja Airport when I land?

Yes, there are several services available in the international terminal when you land where you can exchange currency. There are several ATMs located throughout the terminal if you’d like to withdraw cash using a bank card, or there are also banking services where you can exchange cash. However, if you’re going to exchange cash instead of using an ATM, it is recommended to do this before you leave your origin point. The currency used in Nigeria is the naira.

  • What are the passport and visa requirements when flying to Abuja?

When flying from the United States to Abuja, you will have to provide an active passport that will be active for a minimum of six years from the day you land in Abuja. The passport should also have a blank page for stamps. You will also need a tourist visa. We recommend that passengers arrange a tourist visa with the Nigerian embassy in advance.

  • Which services does Abuja Airport offer to people with disabilities?

Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (ABV) offers various services to ensure that passengers with disabilities have a smooth stay at the airport. The airport has wheelchairs and special seats to help the sick, aged, pregnant, and injured moving around the airport. It also contains accessible restrooms, public transportation, cafes, and lounges to help those with reduced mobility.

  • Where can you spend the night at the arrival airport?

Though these hotels don't offer shuttle services from the airport to their location, you can get there by taxi. You will find taxis operating at the ground transportation level. Consider hiring green-colored taxis since they are the official airport taxis.

  • Which flight options do I have on this route to Abuja?

You can only connect flights when flying from the United States to Abuja. If you are flying from Chicago (ORD), you can choose flights with layover stops at Addis Ababa (ADD), London Heathrow Airport (LHR), or Istanbul International Airport (IST). Excellent experience with business class area. Staff was attentive and food was amazing. Only one bathroom for business class which was logistically difficult for the staff while preparing meals. Need to offer fluids with meals. I did not get enough water to drink. But overall I rate it 5 star.

On time, great food, good drink selection! Only down was alcohol-free lounge. Lufthansa had a much better offering!

Be honest of what you sell: This was sold as Business Class on all three legs, while the JetBlue plane didn't even have business class seats, and wanted $164 for extra legroom seats.

Seat assignments for family traveling with 2 children. Loud crowd during sleep time

It was crowded… the bathrooms dirty and smelly. The seats have been made even smaller.

delayed to take off from detroit by 3 hours lost baggage in istanbul and now in venice without baggage

Seats were very tight with poor legroom - and I am average height. During the 12 hour flight, tiny paper cups of drinks we're only offered during the super and breakfast services, with the crew nowhere to be seen in between. One of the bathrooms was out of order, leading to long lines waiting to use the remaining two available to the economy class passengers.

short flight but we still got a very nice lunch and the crew did an excellent job in taking care of us

For that price on Business class, I expected to have the pod seats. These were configured as 2/3/2 and my seat mate talked half the flight with a friend across the isle, loudly. Very uncouth.

I paid for a confirmed upgraded aisle seat and was moved to a center seat in the back of the plane at the last minute.

Smooth travel. Immediate update prior flight delay so I can arrange myself properly without too rush.

Everything was the best it could be. Crew found me with pre- ordered food. Excellent experience!

Improve the food offerings and cabin seating. My wife would prefer to fly another airline, even with a connection for a more comfortable trip. A 737-8 should not be scheduled for a 6 hour segment, which turned into 7.5 hours due to the origin ground delay.

Packed flight, which makes it tough on crew and boarding staff (and the customers of course). But this was great boarding, clear instructions, etc. Traveling on the weekends are always fraught with danger as you have families and less frequent flyers thus more confusion. But this flight went as planned.

Destroyed my suitcase. Tired of talking about it. Cancelling my unite mileage plus account.

Read the fine print. This was my flight home. I booked my flight for the quickest way home. Had a carry-on and a personal item. Same as my outbound flight. Apparently I needed to pre-pay extra for my carry-on. When I checked in, I was told that I had to check it. I said I’ll pay for it, and was told that this wasn’t an option anymore. They said I still had to pay $50 to check my carry-on. I told them I’ll pay whatever to just carry it in as intended. I was not allowed, so eventually I paid $50 to check my carry-on under a plane that was half full, with overhead compartments that were even less full. My white carry-on suitcase was practically destroyed getting from Idaho falls to Denver to Orange County. The low price air fair was a bait and switch. Got me to the gate, made me pay extra, then didn’t even allow me to pay for a carry on. Not to mention that I paid the $8 for WiFi that didn’t work. All to get my suitcase destroyed. I don’t think I’m going to even keep my Untied mileage plus membership and card. Apparently, membership does not have its privileges for this one.

The flight was delayed, they didn’t even have water for the toilets or for drinks

Even through the flight was delayed due to storms near IAH The flight was great! The crew was so hospitable and professional

I flew from Santa Fe to Denver to catch a flight to London and the transfer of my luggage on arrival at Denver to the London flight worked perfectly. The crew on the ground and on board for the London flight were so friendly and efficient.

The flight was very smooth, however, the quality of food was mediocre.

The TV wasn't working No music for the whole flight from JFK to LOS It was too burring.

Flight was delayed by two hours. This really messed things up because I missed my connecting flight in Addis. I had a meeting in Entebbe which was scrapped because my flight from Addis landed later in the day.

To the Ethiopian Airlines Customer Relations Team, I am writing to formally express my disappointment regarding my recent travel experience with Ethiopian Airlines on flight 629/352. Unfortunately, the level of service provided fell significantly short of the standards I expected from your airline. I would like to highlight the following serious issues encountered during the journey: • Cabin Condition and Hygiene: The aircraft cabin was notably poorly maintained. The seating area was dirty, and there was a persistent, unpleasant odor throughout the flight, which made the environment very uncomfortable for passengers. • Inadequate Service: The overall level of service provided by the staff was unsatisfactory and did not reflect a professional passenger experience. • Baggage Loss: Upon arrival, I was informed that my luggage was lost. This is particularly distressing as it has caused significant personal inconvenience and disruption to my schedule. As a frequent traveler, I value reliability and a clean cabin environment. I request that you investigate these matters immediately, provide an update on the status of my missing baggage, and outline how you intend to compensate for these failures in service. I look forward to your prompt response and a resolution to my lost luggage claim. Sincerely, Puguh

I paid for internet that did not work and had to pay more to have it

The crew was unfriendly and very rude to name a few (Helina). I felt unsafe due to most of the cabinets were open while on flight. All in all the flight was ok, but the crew needed more training on customer service most of all for international flights.

Delay not posted, only departure time listed- not boarding time. We left an hour late and arrived 45 min late. Restrooms had backed up sinks and toilets not flushed ) passenger error). Lots of screen for entertainment didn’t work. But we arrived with our luggage

The plane was old and the luggage racks above us were visibly shaking during turbulence. Water was dripping on our heads during landing. Our flight was over 2 hours late departing but we were not updated or told what to expect as the screen at the gate continued to read “on time”

Check in took over an hour because printer was not working. Attendant did not know how to give free layover Addis Ababa hotel vouchers or update frequent flyer number. After repeated attempts, got voucher emailed. However hotel wanted printed voucher hence more delay. Bus time from hotel back to airport was printed 4:50 hours, but hotel reception called at 3 pm saying bus will leave at 4 pm. Then hotel reception called again saying 4:15 pm. We rushed at 4:15 pm and bus was not ready until 4:40 pm. Many audio outlets were not working in planes.

It is nice and great but the houstees crew are all the way back arguing with customers and behavior issues same of the crew i saw that also all the trips were very much butter!

They messed up my seat so I didn’t get the one I paid for

Put me on standby; flight was late; missed my connecting flight; disaster

Flight attendants were fine, seats a bit hard but I use a cushion for extra support. The only issue was it was a bit too cool and I needed to ask for and received and extra blanket. I survived!!!

Very few things and/or people are excellent. It was very good.

Extremely uncomfortable seats. Experience was like a Frontier Airlines flight. Would not fly it again.

Very, very tight legroom. They must’ve jammed in an additional few rows of seat seating. Denver to Munich was the least legroom I’ve ever had on any flight, let alone a multi hour international journey. I will not take that flight again.

In my first flight with Air Canada we sat in the plane for 4:00pm to 6:30pm. Finally we were asked to get off the plane and we were told the flight was cancelled after 7:00pm There was o clear explanation of what was the problem. I was booked without my permission on a Delta Flight at 7:30pm that was leaving at 8:00pm and I still had to go get my luggage(my final destination was Rome with one stop in Toronto. The luggage claim for Canada was closed so had to return to finally get it on the luggage belt.. Of course I missed the Delta flight and all the next day flights were booked. I also lost what I paid for my stay in Rome because I did nt cancel in time. A complete nightmare.

Good food, overall very comfy. The flight was full so obviously not optimal, but it is what it is.

Perfect airline, super friendly, great service, tasty food. Would fly again.

Parents with permanently crying baby on board. Neither parents nor crew did anything to calm the baby. The food was extremely disappointing. Seafood stew was very, very small! Not even appetizer size! Seat had a gap in the back. Had to use a pillow to fill it.

It's hard to tell where to plug in electronics, and the port on my seat didn't work. Their entertainment system was down. Vegetarian food options were tasty. Friendly, helpful flight attendants.

Boarding process was chaotic. Confusion over Boarding gates: gate 55 or gate 56 ???. Unnecessary standing in long lines to board. Better to call out Boarding groups one at a time and everyone else to sit. Airline only has 2 Boarding groups 1-3 and 4-9. That causes over crowding and chaos

Lady next to me was coughing profusely the entire flight, other lady moved seats because of it, 8 hours of that during an overnight flight is a bit much.

The flight was ok. The seats are so small. The free wifi for members was not an option on this flight. The one flight attendant, older woman with straight white/grey hair, was very rude. The gentleman next to me asked about the wifi since he was a member as well. He stated, accurately, that the option to enter the idea number was not available. Her response was, "I don't know what to tell you" and walked away from him. The rest of the staff was wonderful. I asked another flight attendant about the wifi, she said the free wifi was not enabled on that flight (true or not- at least she was friendly). It was also pretty dirty. When I opened the tray table it had mushed crumbs and there was a dirty used pair of ear buds in my seat pocket. Lastly the air vent above my head was working but stuck so I was unable to move it to face me when it got warm. I fly American often but this really was not a great flight.

My luggage was lost at the airport but American Airlines contacted me and got it to me the next day.

24 hour delays aren’t even heard in 3rd world countries with archaic transportation systems. I’m never flying American Airlines again.

3.5 hr delay leaving Pittsburgh, notifications for which were incomplete and untimely. Connecting flight was automatically switched to one requiring more than a 30 hour layover! After waiting in a long queue, customer service reduced layover to 11 hours and also set up an earlier standby. The standby had empty seats, but the gate agent couldn't change our tickets! On top of all that my luggage was lost and has yet to even be located, much less returned 5 (FIVE!) days later. Too bad there's no rating below poor.

Canceled flight late London to Florence. Help at airport very poor. Treated poorly. Had to sleep in the airport. Lost bags- still do not have them. Horrible. I should be reimbursed!

The seats are extra cramped if you are taller than 5’8! Spring for the extra legroom seats for sure if you have a long flight!

Very disappointed with British Airways. It has been over 24 hours and I still have not received my checked baggage or any proper update. Customer support has been unresponsive, making the situation even more frustrating. Poor baggage handling and lack of communication seriously impacted my travel experience.
