I chose this propery based mostly on price, as I come to Christiansted only to dive. I really only need a clean room with a working shower. The hotel took some time finding my reservation too. All the info was on paper, and of course mine was the very last in the pile. They put me two doors away from the lobby (courtyard entry). I was glad to not haul my big suitcase up stairs, but I wish I'd switched to another room. I was about 20 feet away from daily construction noises...they are still finishing this hotel. They start working about 7:30 am because it gets so hot at midday. They were cutting tiles and wood and making lots of noise. I also noticed that the two 'emergency exits' (according to the map in the room) were blocked with construction materials and also gated and padlocked. One way out...through the lobby. And don't judge the place by the lobby...it's beautifully appointed with a piano, a public computer, a bar, painted ceramic lamps and vases full of giant artificial bouquets; faux old Danish charm. Nothing else here is so opulent. The pool is tiny. There are no lounge chairs, only a few metal and plastic deck chairs. Guests are welcome to use the pool (and gym) at the sister hotel, King Christian, but who wants to slosh up two blocks of open street after a dip in the pool? I'm not much of a pool person...I was here to dive. As for hot showers...it took about 20 minutes for shower to get warm...front desk assured me this was normal when there aren't many guests. So much for conserving water. Plenty of guests on Saturday, loud and obnoxious from about 2 to 3:30 am. Spend more, feel safer.
The hotel itself is very charming. When we arrived they had lost our reservation. Staff was not concerned that we had a conf.#. Staff could not find our reserv. but had us listed in file. Staff said that they were booked solid and could not accomodate us. After ''conversing'' for 30 mins. and promising manager would soon be there, I called online travel website. The staff person changed her attitude and miraculously ''found'' a room... However it was a room with twin beds,not at all what we were promised. We accepted this room with the promise that we would be moved the next day. We inquired about moving the next morning and were informed that there were no other rooms. We were told that it was booked solid and they could not accomodate us moving. On our last day, we were told we could move at 4pm. We stayed put. Why move at 4pm? We were checking out the next am anyway. If they were booked it was a mystery to us. We only saw one other couple the first day, and only a basketball team from St.Thomas was staying there too. They did not have any supervison and constantly were running on the balcony screaming and banging on our door in the middle of the night (2:00am.) They were very rude and disruptive and seemed to be so out of control. The staff said that they were there every year at this time and always had to be ''spoken'' to about their behavior. She apologized and that problem was addressed. I don't know whose fault it was that they lost our reservation,but it has made me not want to ever use this service again,because our flight reservations were messed up too. It was a disaster from the get go!
