The Scafell Hotel is located in the very heart of Borrowdale, considered by many as England s finest valley. The hotel is surrounded by mighty fells, tranquil meadows and crystal clear waters. The Hotel is situated almost at the foot of Great Gable and the Scafell Massif and is, therefore, an excellent centre for walking either in the valley, along river banks, the Derwentwater lake shore, the fells or on Lakelands highest peaks. For those wishing to tour around it is an ideal centre from which to visit other Lake District locations. Those who are content with gentle rambling or just lazing on restful lawns fringed by trees amidst imposing scenery will be equally happy staying here. The comfortable bedrooms, beautifully decorated and some furnished with traditional antique furniture, are all equipped with private facilities,TV, radio and tea / coffee making facilities. The public rooms have been tastefully furnished, including the elegantly re- furnished lounge and restaurant where one can enjoy excellent fare prepared by skilled chefs. Under the direction for the past 37 years of the owner,Miles Jessop and now Managing Director Andrew Nelson who together with the management and staff of the Scafell Hotel offer an efficient and friendly service, so making this comfortable Hotel a perfect base for exploring the Lake District.
super location, wonderful scenery, bubbling stream, nice and quiet, the pub at the back had lovely food, the rabbits playing on the lawn as we went to breakfast!
As I had brought 4 overseas guests, they would have much preferred to have a buffet choice for breakfast, rather than having to choose from a menu where they were not familiar with the items offered. We asked for some cheese for the toast, but were told that the hotel had no cheese, which I found hard to believe.
beautiful gardens, surprisingly clean and modern room and very quiet as you are unable to hear anybody in the other rooms. great public bar for very good meals.very child friendly for our 7 month old abby.
evening meal: small servings for an extortionate price.
The excellent location, peaceful and tranquil.
The full English breakfast was only average for the quality of hotel, not enough food and the cost of drinks was slightly high. Fortunately there was a public bar belonging to the Hotel nearby where prices were more reasonable.
The staff and location were excellent
The shower in bath-room was difficult to regulate.
