Located in trendy Kensington, not too far from expansive Hyde Park, the Kensington Close hotel oozes quintessential British charm. After opening its doors in 1960 (previously the space was a private club, founded in 1937) the hotel is situated on land supposedly once co-owned by Sir Isaac Newton, nearly 300 years ago.
Amenities and Services
The hotel’s location in the picturesque borough of Kensington and Chelsea makes it a popular destination for weddings and other events, and a dedicated event staff ensures successful functions. Kensington Close's Lounge Bar is a well-known spot for a classic cocktail in a well decorated but intimate environment. After an aperitif, indulge across the way at the hotel's Boulevard Restaurant, which serves full English breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Caffe Musetti, meanwhile, is perfect for a coffee on the go. Kensington Close Health Club and Spa boasts a pool, gym, Jacuzzi, sauna, and exercise classes, and is accessible for a low daily surcharge.
With Kensington High Street on the doorstep of the hotel, guests need not wander far to enjoy some of the best shopping in London. Also within walking distance are the splendors of the Science Museum and Natural History Museum, and the impressive Kensington Palace and Gardens. The hotel is a short commute via taxi or tube from the excitement of Oxford Street and the West End theaters.
Friendly staff, clean and tidy room
Expensive parking, waiting over 3 hours to check in - arrived at 12pm
Close to Imperial College where my son studies
Constant smell of sewage, mildew and damp. Pompous, arrogant, unhelpful staff in the main. I had one small bar of soap that ended in a sliver but was not replaced - same with the Toilet roll that was not changed till the day before departure, and I stayed six nights. I have worked in been the Financial Controller in Five Star Hotels in both Knightsbridge and Dubai, and did not realise how tacky this Hotel was; they refused to give me a refund, so I had all my meals, and spent all my time at the Copthorne Tara Hotel next door, where the staff were great, as was the food, the ambience, and the smell.
Parking was easy.
Carpet and decor a bit shabby in the communal areas.
Staff pleasant and helpful. Efficient receptionists. Room clean. Facilities ok
Waitresses at the breakfast room were pushy and unpleasant. (Food was good.)
Position of hotel is excellent for getting around London. Cooked breakfast was very good. Room was clean. Leisure centre good.
You can pay a day rate for the car park but if you take your car out within that time you have to pay again. Standard double rooms are very small and in need of refurb. Reception Manager very unhelpful, lacks people skills.
Staff very friendly and helpful
Room scruffy and worn, previous visitors hair in the bathroom. Hotel could do with a re-vamp.
