A heavenly spa opposite Apollo s birthplace. Mykonos Grand Hotel and Resort is across the Aegean from the sacred isle of Delos, reputedly the sunniest place on earth. Set next to the large outdoor pool, the spa is pure sensory indulgence while two excellent restaurants cater to indoor and outdoor dining. The Cycladic architecture blends bright whitewashed walls with pretty stonework. Inside, it is a rhapsody in white, with dashes of colour. Swathes of creamy linen protect you from the sun in poolside cabanas and some suites have private pools. Enjoy a leisurely breakfast by the pool, which is the epicentre of the resort. Take an all-natural spa treatment, lounge in the hot tub and snooze in a cabana, before asking the chef to barbecue your lunch. Later on, tear yourself away from this indulgence and sip cocktails in the newly renovated White Bar followed by alfresco dinning on the restaurant terrace. Mykonos Grand Hotel and Resort is a Small Luxury Hotels of the World property.

In harmony with its awesome setting rises the Mykonos Grand Hotel & Resort. In 20 acres of landscaped gardens, whitewashed buildings and terraces, it offers the perfect setting for rare moments of romance. Barely three miles from Mykonos town, above the beach where ‘Shirley Valentine’ was filmed, you’ll find the Mykonos Grand Hotel & Resort. The hotel captures the essence of the island’s culture, carefully combining it with the latest high-tech amenities such as complimentary Wi-Fi Internet access and iPod and laptop rental. The facilities are in the tradition of a grand hotel, but, as you wine, dine or sip your cocktail, it has the quality of an ocean liner. There is a wide selection of rooms and suites; the superior rooms have spa-like bathrooms with steam cabin and Jacuzzi. Many of the suites have private pools and barbecues for alfresco dining by a hotel chef.

The corridor down which we walk is lined with windows adorned with blue shutters, colourful window boxes and the paving under our feet is outlined with whitewash; it could be any street in Mykonos town but in reality, this corridor leads around the Mykonos Grand hotel and each window and door, on examination, contains not the interior of a house, but display cabinets filled with ornaments and gifts. What could have been a dark and tedious route under the hotel has been made somewhere pleasant to stroll, removing the mundane from the ordinary and making it innovative and special.
This attitude covers the Mykonos Grand hotel rather well, as there is nothing mundane or ordinary about this hotel. It starts as you park in the car park and walk down to the entrance itself, passing through the doors into the opulent lobby with its plush seating, stunning marble floor and impressive sky-like ceiling; you begin to know that the Mykonos Grand hotel has been very aptly named, for everything is indeed, very grand.
The Mykonos Grand hotel, a member of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World, is the sister hotel to the Petasos beach hotel & spa, and they are managed by two brothers, each with massive hotel experience and their own unique approach to running their hotels. The Petasos beach hotel & spa is very friendly and a little laid back, where the Mykonos Grand hotel feels far more formal and the staff extremely professional, but instead of being stuffy and aloof, it still retains the welcoming atmosphere found at the Petasos beach hotel & spa – a fact that elevates the Mykonos Grand hotel over other Mykonian high-class hotels.
Guests can choose between three different room grades, Garden View, Sea View and Superior, all of which are extremely impressive. While not as ‘wide-awake’ as the rooms at the Petasos beach hotel & spa (no lime green’s found here), they are undoubtedly still of the same incredibly high quality. Marble floors keep you cool and in some rooms, one can find hand made stone carvings set in them giving an unusual focal point. Classic but modern, the rooms of Mykonos Grand hotel are full of beautiful pieces of furniture; just look for the stone-based lamps, each signed by the designer.
