I had so much fun I didn't want to leave! The room, ocean, pools, people, hospitality, food and entertainment were great! I will definitely be back! Boo hoo! Had to go home!
Hotel is awsome, Beach is Beautiful, Food is good, and of course the beds are a little firm. But all-in-all a graet value
My only recommendation would be to Not Fly US Airways our 5 hour return trip turned into 20 hours with no occomodations from US Air, very disapointed.
Food became much cheaper than before (our 4th time) - quality of the food much less, than 2-3 years ago – you can see they count any penny. NOT SURE they wash dishes in regular way - I was not sure they wash it at all – too sticky and with some staff on the top (choric ? chemistry?) I ask two weeks before to reserve the particular building (there are 9 of them) and got “confirmation” – “we will do our best” – nothing. When we arrived they just said sorry… NOT available. Drinks are very cheap too. The staff which they used for cocktails is unknown (label : ROM, VODKA, etc) Brand names of liquors are present at the bar - you have to ask it, but they ignore it or smiling…? The beach and swimming are really good
It was a wonderful place to stay. This was my second time there. I took my daughter and daughter-in-law with me. We had a fantastic time. The weather was hot the ocean was beautiful and the service was out of this world. I would recommend the Riu Yacatan to anyone. We went ot El Secreto and went horseback ridding on the beach and in the jungle. It was so much fun. Kristin and Cassandra had so much fun. We also went to downtown Playa Del Carman. It was fun shopping. We also went to see the the seventh wonder of the world. Chichenitza was a wonderful day of sightseeing. This was my third time there. I have also been to Xcaret and Koba and I would recommend these sights to anyone. Debra from Hermantown, Minnesota
Overall, the entire stay was very good. Beautiful beaches, free food and drinks, all different types of people, plenty to do, eat and enjoy. My girlfriend and I usually woke up pretty early, went on a run through the campus area and into the city. We followed that with a delicious breakfast buffet with anything anyone could ever want, from fresh fruit to delicious eggs and pancakes to cereal. We usualy then showered up and hit the beach by 9am. We sat in the sun all day, swam in the beach and pools and enjoyed all different kinds of drinks and delicious food. We went on an excursion one day which was great, costs a little more, but definitely worth it. We went parasailaing, went to comedy shows, enjoyed live music, but most of all enjoyed eachother's company and people watching. One great thing is that your room is on one resort but you have access to several other resorts in the same complex. Having said that the rooms were old and a little musty. After the first day, I think we became immune to the smell. Good thing is, there is so much to do you don't really want to spend a ton of time in your room (kind of like a cruise). The drinks are free but served in a small cup that usually melts or isn't very cold if you don't drink it quickly and then you end up going back to the bar a lot. But the staff was very helpful and considering everything, I would absolutely recommend going back and intend to.
Everyday wake up,walk down for an excellent breakfast at the awesome buffet, get ready for the beach/pool area which are both excellent. After a few hours of sun n drinks, grab some lunch poolside and continue the day in the sun.Later on made our way back to the room for a late nap and get ready for the nite, dinner, drinks maybe walk the resort which was very well kept.Overall had a great vacation and will definitely go back!
I had a great time at the Riu Yucatan when I went with a few of my close friends. It is a cute establishment located within the Jungle, surrounded by an array of tropical trees. There were many different types of animals including monkeys that would eat bananas from your hand. From the hotel room it's just a short walk to the pool, restaurants, and the private beach. We spent most of the time by the pool (which had multiple bars surrounding) or the beach. The beach had an amazing view and some free fun such as kayaking and windsurfing. The food was decent for an all-inclusive place. Breakfast and lunch were buffet style and became mundane, however, there was a better selection for dinner. In addition to the dinner buffet, there were three restaurants with better options that gave more of a dining experience. I would have preferred at least one or two restaurants that were completely indoors, but I guess that's what's expected at a tropical resort. I also would have liked them to have food options 24/7 like the website said. Regarding staff and housekeeping, they were all wonderful. They were all very friendly and the rooms were kept exceptionally clean. The only complaint I would have was regarding the refilling of beer and soda from the mini-bar. It was done every other day and we had to bribe them to refill it on a day that it was raining and we didn’t feel like leaving the room. Overall, I would say it’s a great experience and definitely worth the money.
For the money, this was a good deal. The beach was great - that's why we went. The grounds were nice. Rooms adequate, although we stayed in furthest building from beach, so always a hike to beach & back. Food was not great, unless you are into buffets - only 3 non-buffet dining - nothing special there. Close to shopping and other dining options. Many tour options available through hotel - take van tour to ruins rather than coach bus - much more personal.
Overall pretty nice place for the money, disappointed the hot tub was not functional. Make sure to bring a big mug for beer they only give you a very small glass at the bar, so you have to go back and fourth a lot. Beach was nice, and the compound style resort was nice being able to get free drinks at all the Riu hotels next door. Food was pretty good, entertainment was good as well.
After reading the reviews about the RIU Yucatan obviously people dont know what to expect in a humid climate. Yes it smelled a little musty but thats the way it is in such a climate. When I got home and unpacked my stuff I got a whiff of the riviera Maya IM HOME it was very pleasant. As far as the food what do you want at a buffet it was good plus you could go to the other 3 RIUs and eat drink what ever. We spent time going to the other RIUs and sitting on the beach. We went the the RIU tiquilla next door and watched the Olympic ice hockey finals for the gold at the sports bar. There was standing room only Team Canada and team USA rocked the house. We had a great time and would go back to any of the RIUs in a minute
I just got back from a weeks stay at the Riu Yucata in Playa Del Carmen Mexico. I was VERY DISAPPOINTED in this resort and want to warn everyone NOT to stay there. Here is a long list of problems I had during my stay: Rooms look nothing like what they advertise on their website. The rooms are small, smell of mildew and have very hard beds. Upon my arrival I noticed the shower light was burned out and the shower head was broken. A guy from maintenace came by, looked at it and never came back to fix it. Mini bar/fridge was lame and was never re-stocked unless I asked for it. The rooms were in desperate need of a face lift. Old style tile, paint and decorations. The lamps were rusty and there were stains on the walls. Resort grounds are mediocre and the pools are dirty. Their ''signature'' restaurants in the resort are not very good and the food quality within the resort is again mediocre to say the best. The staff is for the most part unfriendly and one night during dinner insulted my girlfriend for being with a ''white boy''. My girlfriend is Hispanic and I'm Caucasian. We tried to enter the Riu Palace next door just to see what it was like, and whether we would stay there on our next visit. We were denied entry and told we couldn't even look around. The biggest complaint I have about this resort is the employees and the fact they go out of their way to make it inconvenient for you. They act as if they are doing you a favor by waiting on you and would prefer you not bother them at all. I'm not a picky person, but when I spend money at a resort that is suppose to provide me services for that money, I expect to receive it. Stay away from this place !!!
The only complaint that we have is the restocking of the mini bar. They say it will be stocked every other day. However, we had to track down staff to get more beer, they are quick to take the tips but not so quick do what you request. The only other thing that distrubed us was a couple days getting back from the beach between 4-5 pm the room was still not cleaned and no fresh towels. Other than the above 2 minor complaints over all this was a wonderful vacation, staff was awesome of course we had our favorite bartenders * & * there are not enough words to praise these 2 guys they were awesome. Food was very good, Beach front amazing. Overall a wonderful vacation would not hesitate to stay at Riu Yucatan again.
Most everything is pretty clean; the grounds are beautiful; the staff is very friendly; the buffet food is a little above average. It was nice to be able to visit the other nearby Riu hotels. Our room smelled musty- sticks to your clothes and luggage; the front desk isn?t much help, maid service is erratic- seem to always forget something; swimming pool had film on surface, bottom and sides were slippery. Sit-down restaurants disappointing- steakhouse served about a 3/8? thick steak, although tasty. The only non-smoking area is in the buffet. If you are a non-smoker or travel with children, you can?t get away from it anywhere else. Men, bring long paints, restaurants require them although many go in with shorts. I would have a hard time recommending to a friend.
No elevators at this facility...we got a third floor which was inconvenient for a family with a 10 mo. old baby. Gardens were beautiful. The beach is very nice. A little over crowded.Pool water was dirty...staff at front desk not very friendly. Food was good but waiters not catering good.
Very pleasant, but really slow and not always helpful staff. Lots of rules for the guests. Beds very hard, ask for foam topper. You will have to ask more than once (for everything). Lots of food choices, really no tipping, but you will pay through the nose for a local phone call or a cab. Very nice facility, plenty to do. Terrible damp, things do not get dry. Far more for families and couples than for singles.
Playa is amazing, but not this hotel. Beds were terrible, our room smelled like mildew, not enough pool chairs to go around. Wouldn't recommend for couples or those wanting quiet, it's a huge hotel. Staff was great and the food was decent.
The front staff were RUDE. Asked question, no answers,no help.DO NOT book tranfers, not there to pick us up. Pools dirty...Nee ds lots of work. Suite we had had rust in tub and running down the side
