The Sofia Hotel was in a perfect location which is why we picked it. Close walks to Gaslamp, Little Italy and the waterfront made for nice evenings. The staff was also incredibly helpful in suggesting places to go and things to do.
The showers are built without walls, therefore the bathroom gets soaked every time you bathe. Additionally, there is no room service.
I liked the amenities although there was no pool. The restaurant downstairs was good with reasonable prices and friendly staff. The location was great with a ten minute walk to the convention centre and a couple of minutes to the gas lamp district with restaurants and bars. Overall great.
I requested the largest room available and it was still small. That said, I've just returned from ten years in Asia so I'm used to business hotels and this was bigger than that, but still, it's nice to have some room to spread out. Still, all in all, a good hotel and I recommend it.
Sincerely nice. Clean. Helpful. Friendly - entire staff was so pleasant. And patient.. Little restaurant downstairs is really good. Walk to everything, stay in style and save money :)
The quality and cleanliness of the room.
The room was clean and comfortable enough. The location is very good, close to restaurants.
The bathroom was in a closet with a sliding glass door that didn't slide very well. The handle fell off. The sink had a very difficult to understand drain mechanism where one has to stick ones hand in the water and apply pressure to make the stopper pop up. The restaurant had very loud, smarmy music whose volume the staff could not control.
Staff was great, location was great , and it was clean .
$34 parking fee per day .
We liked to location, in the fact that it was centrally located. It was easy to walk to the mall, to the gas lamp district or to the waterfront museums and shopping. The hotel itself is beautiful. Our room was well decorated, modern and very comfortable. The hotel staff were wonderful. We really enjoyed our stay and would stay there again.
There is a large homeless population in the downtown district. While we don't mind that so much, there was one man in particular that would stand in front of the hotel and scream obscenities. He was unpleasant.
The unique style and ambience! The service. The fitness room. We with defintely come again!
That it didn't have a pool. Room was a bit small. Parking is too expensive.
Staff was top notch, hotel was nicely updated, pretty good location. Everything worked and the room and hotel were clean and nicely appointed.
The room -- with a king sized bed -- was simply too small for two adults with suitcases. The bathroom was tiny and in the tiny bathroom the shower was very small. On the whole while the hotel seemed very European or very updated 19th century, I'm neither.
The Sofia is in a perfect location. Rooms are smaller but comfortable and updated. Valet parking is a must. Overall the staff was friendly and very interested in meeting our needs.
I liked the look of the hotel and the room was just fine for what it cost.
The one problem with the hotel is that you have to pay for parking every night in addition to paying for the room.
I love boutique hotels that are "done right." The Sofia is a renovated old hotel that has kept the older charm with modern amenities. The beds were super comfortable, the location is excellent for downtown, and the staff was super.
Parking is $38. Ouch!
Location was fine. Rooms were clean
- Front desk was very rude regarding issues we had with our room. - Rooms were loud. We were woken up by 5AM every morning with work trucks or delivery trucks up and down the street. They moved us from one room to another room that was equally as loud. Then again, but only after trying to get us to pay additional. They put us on the lowest floor next to the street after telling us they'd put us high up to eliminate some of the noise in the mornings. Ultimately, we had to buy ear plugs to get any kind of sleep the room. You can also hear conversations of other guests through the paper thin walls. - Rooms were tiny. - Would never stay here again.
Price Fairly nice rooms
Shower half closed, let's water out onto floor. Bathroom sink area lighting poor. Noise from outside wasn't great.
Location, location, location! Nice touches on a boutique redo of an old downtown building. Close to everything in the gas lamp and made downtown walkable. Coffee bean downstairs was great for coffee.
Daily amenity fee for water, wifi that sucked and other extras that weren't used made me feel nickel and dimed. Staff was moderately enthusiastic.
Loved the location. Staff were very nice and friendly
The room was so small I had to move a chair out of the way to get in the bed. The shower was so small I could barely raise my arms up to rinse my hair. Bed was very uncomfortable and all the linens looked a bit dingy.
The beds were awesome. Great pillows and sheets. The staff was very friendly and it's in a great central location.
It might be too a little too much $$$ especially with the additional $10 fee upon checkout.
Very good location, Vallet parking service
I stayed there for 3 nights at 4th floor. This building was located at the center of the city, so it was little bit noisy due to traffic. Another noisy thing was fan sound ath the bath room. The fan was running all the time, even during at night, and there was no power switch for it. I told at the desk, but it was not fixed. I wonder fan in bath room was centrally controlled or not.
Great customer service, nice location to get to the Gas lamp district, nice little amenities: fridge/microwave in room, real glasses, soft towels, free bike rentals, valet parking, restaurant/bar on premise. Rooms were clean and hotel was nicely refurbished.
The rooms were very small but well designed for the space. The beds were very hard and in need of a pillow top maitress or foam maitress for the top. Parking was expensive and the restaurant/bar menu was too pricey for the food served. The menu was rather limited.
