The staff at Tromso Airport was great. However, while travelling to Tromso by bus, we had an accident and I contacted Alamo's online chat for cancellation, because we won't be able to reach Tromso on time and we won't be able to use the car as much as we would like to. The person at the chat told me that the booking is cancelled, but we didn't receive any notification regarding cancellation. And we were able to check the car's readiness next day and the car was waiting for pickup as stated on the instructions, this is why we picked up the car 1 day later. Even so, we paid complete booking cost, and 1 day is paid for nothing. If possible, we would like to receive a refund for 1 day, because we didn't use the car. If required, we can send the pictures and videos of the accident we have been through to prove.

Pickup took almost 90 minutes because a person in front of us was having issues and held up the line for at least 70 minutes (I'm not sure when they actually arrived) and the agent wouldn't assist other people. Car return area was not clearly marked like other rental services, and was not communicated to us. Office was closed on the day we returned the car.

The car. It was nice and clean and easy to drive.

Cons:

The fact that we were limited to only 300km which really restricted where we could go and what we could see. Also what really annoyed me was that I arrived late due to flights delayed so I asked weather I could return the car later and was told no because it was booked out at 13:00 that day which is fair enough. But to my disbelief I walked past where I had dropped the car off at 14:00 and the car was still there. I really don't appreciate being lied to by the customer facing staff and would never use them again because of this.

No one available at drop off. For a city the size of Tromso and an airport with heavy traffic, not having an office open on Sunday is unusual. It was unclear why there was a large advertisement for a company or something on the doors of the car - should have gotten a discount for double use of the car!

Disclaimer: we did not get the car so we are only reviewing the agency behavior and policy. We initially scheduled the car pickup at 3PM since our next flight was delayed we called the agency to let them know we wouldn’t be able to pick it up on the same day but would come the next day. We did not ask for any price discount or anything, just to inform them. The person we spoke to enquired about the time we would come in on the next day, I asked whether any time was better, he simply replied no, was just to have an idea. We left it there. On the next day, we show up at half past noon, the person at the counter (Seemed to be the agency manager) tells us that he’d given the car to someone else. We then go on to explain the misunderstanding, there was no misunderstanding at all, he was aware of the full situation, just that the price for that rental had doubled up on time. Lame attitude all along, did not try to give us a call, nor produce any apologies or offer a discount on the last available car, which turns out was the same category as the one we booked. Overall really bad experience, I do not recommend because of this incompetent manager.

Hello, dear customer support, I am writting to you hoping to resolve an issue with my recent booking with Hertz in Tromso Norway. When I was on the way to Tromso, my personal belongings were stolen along with my drivers license and credit card, which I used to book a car (I’ve already reported the issue to the local police and I am waiting for an official statement). When I arrived to pick up car and explain the situation, your norweigen collegues managed to change a driver and attempted to chrage another credit card but due to a technical issue with their system (this is what they claimed happened), we were unable to pick up our car. Subsequently the reservation were cancel as a no show and we were told to report the issue directly with your customer support. I would like to kindly ask you for a refund as you are a benefactor of the payment (I am able to provide account statement, that shows Hertz.com as a recipient of the payment). Also I have written statement from your norweigen collegues aligning the issue, that I am able to provide as a screen shot or pdf as they recommended to acompany my claim with this statement to help resolve the issue. If you could, please, let me know, what the next steps are, that would be very helpfull. Thank you for your time and I appreciate your help. Kind regards Irina Kondratova

I rented a car on a snowy day in October, and was a bit worried about driving the 3 hours North on Rural highways. But the car we were given was a Suzuki hybrid equipped with excellent studded snow tires that performed very well on the snowy roads and got very good gas mileage.
