The elegant mansion that now serves as the Cameron Estate Inn was built in 1805 by Dr. John Watson, great-grandfather of President McKinley. Simon Cameron purchased it in 1872, and enlarged and renovated the mansion which was regarded with wonder and admiration by many notables of the post Civil War era. The property is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and has been designated as a Lancaster Country Heritage Resource and Historic Preservation Trust Site. Also in the immediate vicinity are quaint villages, antique shops, outstanding back roads, wineries, covered bridges, hiking along the Susquehanna River, and championship golf courses.
