Taking a cannabis vacation isn’t a new thing, but it’s certainly gaining interest among US travelers. According to a recent KAYAK survey, about 1 in 4 Americans aged 21-34 had already traveled to a destination because cannabis was legal. Additionally, 1 in 3 Americans aged 21+ were interested in visiting a cannabis dispensary while traveling. With this growing interest in cannabis tourism in mind, we created a guide to several (but not all) cannabis destinations across North America. From deciding where to go, where to stay and what to do when you’re there, this resource can help travelers discover dope destinations across the region.

Laws

Adults 21+ can possess and purchase up to an ounce (28 grams) of marijuana or cannabis-infused products, and 8 grams of concentrates. This applies to both residents and out-of-state visitors.

Ontario, CA

Laws

Adults 19+ can possess and purchase up to 30 grams of dried cannabis or equivalent.

Consumption restrictions

You can smoke and vape cannabis in private residences, in many outdoor public settings (sidewalks, parks), and designated smoking guest rooms in hotels, motels and inns. Adults are not allowed to consume cannabis in indoor common areas such as condos, within 65 feet of a school, within 30 feet of a hospital, or in a vehicle/boat that is being driven or will be driven.

Duldraeggan, The Romantic Getaway Cottage

This cozy and beautiful cottage is located on a quiet and charming historical property called “Duldraeggan” and happens to be one of Ontario’s oldest properties – and the house rules allow smoking outside.

Quality Inn & Suites 1000 Islands

Right around the corner from the St. Lawrence River, this hotel has smoking and non-smoking rooms and suites available.

Entire House Near Colchester Beach, Marina and Park

This quaint getaway retreat is located in Canada’s hottest wine region and is right by the beach. The house rules allow smoking so long as it is outside in the backyard or on the deck.

Adults 21+ can possess up to an ounce of marijuana, up to 16 ounces of marijuana in solid form (edible), up to 72 ounces of marijuana-infused liquid products and 5 grams of concentrate. This applies to both residents and out-of-state visitors.
