A Christmas trip to Copenhagen isn’t complete until you have walked through the gates at Tivoli. Every December, Tivoli undergoes a magical transformation and is decorated in thousands of Christmas lights.
In addition to cozy Christmas stalls with all kinds of Christmas treats, you can also meet Santa Claus in his Christmas room and participate in the traditional Christmas tree lighting and Lucia procession.
From 2024, the Christmas market at Kongens Nytorv moved to Thorvaldsens Plads. The Christmas market is one of the first to open and one of the most beloved Copenhagen Christmas markets. So this is the place to go if you want to get into the Christmas spirit before December.
Experience Christmas as in the old days with Christmas stalls surrounded by historical decorations. Here you will find Christmas treats such as apple punch and mulled wine. For the best experience, visit after dark to experience the magical Christmas lights.

Højbro Plads is one of the biggest Christmas Markets in Copenhagen. Here, the stalls are surrounded by Christiansborg Castle and the square’s other historic buildings, with the statue of Absalon riding his horse in the middle.
At the Christmas Market at Højbro Plads you can treat your taste buds to Christmas delicacies from all over Europe. In addition to the traditional Danish Christmas treats, you can munch on everything from cheese and meats to German currywurst. If you need a few presents to put under the Christmas tree, you will find several stalls selling local gifts.
Flids Christmas market is a special market where visitors can see the artists and their creative processes. Everything here is created based on sustainable principles, from ceramics, and art to wood design, lighting, crafts, and jewelry. A great option if you want to find unique, local gifts to bring home.

In the middle of Nytorv you will find the cozy H.C. Andersen’s Christmas Market. The Christmas Market is named after the world-famous storyteller, just as the many stalls are also named after H.C. Andersen’s popular stories.
You may even spot an impersonator of HC Andersen who you can get your photo taken with. If you are visiting with children, they are guaranteed to love the nostalgic carousel or a ride on the beautiful Christmas carousel.

At the Design Museum members of Danish Craftsmen & Designers are invited to VÆRK’s popular Christmas Market. Here you have the opportunity to buy unique Christmas gifts of high artisanal quality from over 80 different stalls. If you get hungry, you’ll find traditional apple slices and mulled wine.
If you are looking for a cozy and intimate Christmas Market, you must stop by Store Godthåb in Frederiksberg. Here, the courtyard is filled with beautiful South Funen Christmas trees, while the old, listed barn is abundant with greenery, wreaths, and Christmas decorations. In the courtyard, you can enjoy mulled wine, hot cocoa, and apple slices.
In the heart of Frederiksberg Have, you will find the Fasangården, which in the run-up to Christmas is transformed into a magical place for children and adults. Every Sunday in December, the atmospheric farm is filled with everything from Christmas crackers and an oyster bar to visits from Santa Claus and Christmas choir. On the farm, you can munch on Christmas treats while in Fasangården’s cozy rooms, you can sink your teeth into the farm’s delicious smørrebrød.
9. Christmas Market on Værnedamsvej

On the first Saturday in December, the traditional market day on Værnedamsvej between Frederiksberg and Vesterbro is transformed into a Christmas Market. All the local shops, cafes, and delicatessens move out onto the street to sell their delicious products. At the market you can find great vintage wares, handicrafts, books, and of course plenty of food.

Are you looking for a more unusual Christmas Market in Copenhagen? RAW Marked celebrates unconventional handicrafts, design and art. Over 80 artisans and food makers fills Nørrebrohallen with stalls brimming with quirky and creative Christmas gifts such as upcycled lamps, handmade soaps, and exquisite one-of-a-kind jewelry. Entry is free and it is a fully accessible market.
11. Christmas at Copenhagen Zoo

Copenhagen Zoo is a popular destination all year round for visitors with and without children. Why not stop by the zoo during this Christmas to wish the animals happy holidays? In December, you’ll find Santa’s House, reindeer and gift workshops to spread joy to young and old alike.
The Christmas train runs around the park, decorated with 900 Christmas trees, and children can make straw animals and feed the animals in the petting zoo. At the Zoo Tower you’ll find Christmas stalls with Christmas decorations, crafts and treats like apple slices, roasted almonds and hot chocolate.
Veras opens the doors to a new Copenhagen Christmas market with a focus on secondhand and sustainable goods. Hosted in Denmark’s largest hall, Tunnelfabrikken, it will be filled with vintage pop-ups, knitting & crochet, budding upcycling and redesign talents.
The idea behind the Christmas market is that everyone can leave with unique, sustainable Christmas gifts. In addition to Christmas gifts, you can participate in Vera’s Used Bingo, which takes place at 13:00 on both Saturday and Sunday. The bingo cards can be purchased online for with the opportunity to win unique Christmas gifts.

Most Christmas markets in Copenhagen start in December. If you are visiting earlier, there are a few markets that start on the 2nd or 3rd weekend of November.
