Traveling during the summer is notoriously expensive and crowded. However, we took a look at all searches conducted for travel this August relative to July to reveal the best deals and how to avoid the masses.

Best Flight Deals August vs July: Very surprisingly, the median airfare found on KAYAK to London was 19% cheaper for travel in August compared to July (now at $1,235) – the biggest drop of the top 50 most-searched destinations worldwide. For a cheaper flight, Americans should consider New Orleans with a median fare of $324 – the second biggest drop in airfare compared to July.

Avoid Crowds and Save: New Orleans also saw the biggest drop – an impressive 38% – in median hotel rate, down to $142/night. As an added bonus, flight and hotel searches to the Big Easy also dropped significantly for travel in August. In other words, fewer crowds on Bourbon Street and shorter waits at Cafe Du Monde.

Overall Cheapest: To get away for the least amount possible, travelers should head to Denver, where median airfare for August is $278 – the cheapest of the top 50 most-searched destinations – and the median hotel rate is $131/night, the 4th cheapest.

Wait on Canada: Vancouver and Toronto are the top two trending flight destinations for August travel – both jumping 25% in searches compared to July – and also saw the biggest increases in median airfare at 9% and 5% higher than July. Anyone considering a trip to either city should hold off until after August to ditch the jacked airfare and mobs.
