Fall back into the routine.

We’re returning to our normal (non-summer) schedules, like watching Sunday football and heading back to school. Speaking of which, if you’re a student looking to save on travel, we’ve got some tips for finding special discounts on KAYAK – keep reading to get the full scoop.

The pre-check

The week’s latest travel stories and news.

  • Go see some leaves.
Foliage lovers, your time is almost here! Check out this map, to see where peak colors are predicted across the US.
  • Naughty or nice?
According to the DOT, air travel may be better this holiday season than it was over the summer. With gas prices declining and airlines shaping up, we’re hoping this is true.
  • Get in the fast lane.
Check out the 8 airports that offer “Reserve” by Clear, where passengers can get through the airport faster and for free.
  • Strictly business.
US businesses are booking nearly 6x more fall trips this year compared to last fall, including team travel which was up 73% this summer.
  • Talk about a BOGO.
Southwest Airlines announced that Rapid Rewards members will be able to bring a friend for free with “Companion Passes” for a limited time.

Back at school? You could save.
There’s nothing like getting back to campus and seeing your crew for the first time in months. If hearing about your friends’ summer trips makes you want to plan your own, then you probably want to know about our student travel programs. Whether you’re planning an epic spring break excursion or thinking ahead to study abroad, here’s what to know about these discounts on KAYAK:

  • How do student rates work?
Providers often work with airlines to decide on discounted flights just for students, but specific deals depend on the program.
  • Do I have to be a student to benefit?
Not always – most discounts are available to travelers between 18 and 26 years old, but again, it depends on provider.
  • Who qualifies for these rates?
Each provider has different requirements – because these fares are reserved for students, programs may ask for verification to prove that you qualify.
  • What student travel programs are on KAYAK?
Currently, we offer search results for FLYLA, ScholarTrip, and StudentUniverse.

Tricks of the trade

Go to a Smithsonian Museum this weekend (for free).
On September 17th, participating Smithsonian Museums around the country will be offering free admission for you and a friend to the museum of your choice. Search for Smithsonian Museums by location to see if there’s a museum in your city – or in the one you’re visiting – to explore.
