Is it getting hot in here, or is it just Utah? In preparation for Valentine’s Day, we used our hotel search data to determine which states are bringing sexy back to the year’s most romantic holiday. Because nothing says “sexy” like data analysis.

Utah is definitely feeling the love this year. With the greatest increase in Valentine’s Day hotel search activity of all 50 states, there’s nothing more romantic than sipping champagne by the fireplace. Washington, Connecticut, New Jersey and Maryland are also making sure it’s a night to remember (and not because your bouquet of flowers arrived dead), rounding out our top 5 states where the romance is heating up this Valentine’s Day.

At the bottom of our list is Louisiana with the lowest increase in Valentine’s Day hotel search activity. Maybe that Mardi Gras hangover hasn’t worn off yet? Whatever the reason, Cupid’s arrow appears to be missing the Bayou. Following in Louisiana’s footsteps are Mississippi, Nevada, Texas, and Alabama.

If your Valentine’s Day is shaping up to be more of a Louisiana than a Utah, have no fear: we have your travel solutions.

  • Last-minute bookings: Our data shows that median hotel prices only fluctuated by $10 in the two weeks leading up to Valentine’s Day. So, there’s still time to book and plenty of opportunities to find the right options within your budget even if you procrastinated.
  • Search with filters: KAYAK offers ambiance filters to help you customize your hotel search. Romantic, Luxury, and Beach are the top filters for this holiday, but there are plenty of other activity-based options like “golf” and “spa.”
  • Save while you Splurge: Our Luxury for Less list identifies the top 10 destinations that boast the lowest rates for 5-star hotels worldwide.
  • Show him/her a whole new world: Staying on budget isn’t a problem with KAYAK’s Explore feature; you set how much you want to spend on a flight (per person) and we’ll find all the amazing places you can travel to from your home airport. Filter by flight length and time of year to find a trip that’s tailor-made for you.
