My Stay at the 40 Berkeley Hostel was horrible. The stay here ruined my vacation. The facilities are filthy (bedroom and showers). They have old towels, bedsheets, beds,and out of service showers. We cringed every time we had to return for sleep/shower. While my group was out, one of the ceiling fan blades broke off. We alerted the staff upon noticing what happen. We were accused of breaking it and were promptly charged an additional $150. The staff was unfriendly and the Manager was unprofessional/unhelpful. Please spend the extra $10-$20 for a far superior experience in Boston.
Pleasant environment, friendly, helpful staff, comfortable bed, easily adjustable room temperature, clean, wholese atmosphere. I recommend this place highly, and plan to stay there anytime I go to Boston.
Nothing unpleasant. I've stayed in hostels all over the world and I'd rate this one right at the top.
Good location. It's walkable to the city center.
The bathrooms were dirty and the rooms outdated with no AC.
The stuffs are ok.
The hotel description on the internet and actual hotel completely contradicting. Out of the 5 nights I was staying, I couldn't not able to sleep for a single nights. The banging of the door, people chatting on the corridor late nights, room smell, bed squeaking...etc. contributing for my miserable nights which I never been experiencing before. Judging from all these services and the sanitation of the rooms, washrooms and the corridors, I havent touch the breakfast which was included in the price. This is maybe the biggest mistake I ever made regrading vacationing.
Could have told me it's a ywca
Coming from Italy I had not quite clear what a ywca is, I thought it would look like a youth hostel. No ac anywhere, Boston is humid, hot and sticky in summertime. It was deadly hot in the room.Also very expensive for being less that a hostel.
Next to the train and subway station, and not far from downtown and seaport area. Good internet access in the rooms. Very good breakfasts, during the weekend.
The room was not very comfortable: no air conditioning, no tap, broken blind. Only two showers for a lot of rooms on the floor.
private room is without washroom
