Set in the heart of Clarens, a village at the foot of the Maleti Mountains, this guest house is great for exploring South Africa’s Free State province. Built in Neo-Colonial style, Red Mountain House features 8 comfortably furnished guest units. Relax in front of the fireplace in your seating area or take in magnificent views from the comfort of your balcony. Persian carpets, four-poster beds and turn-of-the-century antiques complement each of the rooms. Next to an on site restaurant, Red Mountain House includes an in-house shop selling African and local art. Choose a number of beautiful souvenirs for your family or friends. With the village market square just a short walk away, you can also opt to explore nearby stores.
Prompt service and attention to all our needs by management. Willing to accommodate our wishes
The manager is most pleasant, was waiting for our arrival, greeted us by name and did so each time he saw us, and had moved us to a better room because one became available. The House was delightful - spacious, full of light and sunshine and well equiped. We would definitely stay there again!
The management has an arrangement for breakfast with a separately owned restaurent which shares the premises for breakfast. The setting is wonderful but the meal was miserly - a sad note, as breakfast is hardly a heavy expense meal. Two miserable slices of bacon, half a tomato and two eggs does not constitute a 'full English breakfast'. We felt cheated! I have brought this to the hHouse manager's notice.
Enjoyed the location, under floor heating, fireplace.
Simple and charming b&B. Log Fire in the room very useful in winter months and underfloor heating very adequate at other times. Spectacular location and central to all Clarens has to offer. I personally liked the fact that there was no tv!
Rather on the expensive side for sa b&b but still reasonable if you are paying with £ or $.
Good, quiet location, balcony overlooking green, and nice views of mountains to side. Beautiful area and Clarens is a very pleasant town.
Had to go to a restaurant about 200 yards away for (good) breakfast, and absence of TV and comfortable seating in room
I liked the way we were welcomed as well as the comfort of the room. It was centrally located and within walking distance of all restaurants and shops. Well located for day trips to nearby walks and aditional activities if required.
Not 100% convinced that it (still) deserves a 4 star rating
Beautiful room with splendid mountain-view, fireplace, four-poster bed and every evening a glass of port and chocolate standing ready besides the fireplace. Nice fresh breakfast. Beautiful surroundings.
